Toy Fair 2014: The LEGO Movie Emmet's Construct-o-Mech Photos!

If there’s one LEGO set from The LEGO Movie that I was dying to buy after seeing the movie in theaters (several times, in fact), it was Benny’s Spaceship. But that set isn’t available to purchase yet. If there’s another set that I desperately wanted to own, it was Emmet’s awesome mech robot from the climax of the movie. Unfortunately, that set isn’t available yet either. However, at the American International Toy Fair in New York City this week, LEGO officially announced and revealed The LEGO Movie Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech 70814 for Summer 2014!

When Emmet achieves his destiny and become a Master Builder toward the end of The LEGO Movie, the first amazing build that he envisions and puts together is a yellow mech robot suit that’s shades of the classic “Aliens” movie–the LEGO Movie Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech robot! While this vehicle only turns up for about a minute at the climax of The LEGO Movie, I suspect that Emmet’s Construct-O-Mech is going to end up being one of the more iconic vehicles from the movie and will be hotly-demanded years from now.

The main feature of The LEGO Movie Construct-o-Mech 70814 is the twin swinging wrecking balls attached to the mech’s “shoulders”. But let’s be honest here–the true selling-point of this set is that it’s a fully brick-built giant articulated robot mech suit! I’d seen this design before seeing The LEGO Movie and didn’t care for it all that much, but after seeing the movie it’s catapulted up my list of priorities to fall into “must buy” territory.

Three of the four minifigures included with this set are pretty standard fare. There are two Skeleton minifigures and a LEGO Emmet figure in his standard clothes. What makes the Emmet in this set feel a little bit different and special is his exclusive reversible head with angry expression! Even when he’s mad, Emmet is still downright adorable, though.

The fourth (and easily most exciting) minifigure included with the LEGO Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech set is the last of the five LEGO Uni-Kitty minifigures to be released: the flaming LEGO Angry Kitty minifigure! With the massive popularity of Unikitty, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of fans purchased this LEGO Emmet robot mech set just to get the way-cool (and way-destructive) Angry Uni-Kitty minifigure.

The 70814 LEGO Movie Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech set is expected to be released in August 2014. LEGO 70814 will contain 708 pieces and retail for $59.99–a pretty great cost-per-brick price!
