Target Exclusive LEGO Minifigures Set! LEGO Superboy!

I mentioned last week that making several trips to Target was becoming part of my daily routine ever since a new Target store opened up a ninety-second drive from my apartment. Today was one of those days when having a short drive to reach the store definitely paid off, as I was careless on my first trip in and only took a cursory walk past the aisle. The joke was on me, though, as Target had an unexpected promo that I had to go back for (after it was already sold out)–the Target Exclusive LEGO Minifigures set, containing a LEGO Superboy minifigure and three other figures! It’s already selling online for $40-$50, so if you want this set free, now is the time to hit Target!

I was horrified this afternoon when someone messaged me about this week’s Target LEGO promo, which I was absolutely clueless about despite having been at Target earlier this morning. I rushed back to Target (which is thankfully only a two-minute frenzy), but I was too late: I was told by the employees that this week’s entire allotment of the Target exclusive LEGO Minifigures set was already totally gone. Insane!

The promo–if they still had it (which they didn’t)–was a free Target LEGO Minifigures Set cube containing four minifigures for free with a $50 qualifying purchase (or available for $15 without purchasing anything else–theoretically).

LEGO City Park Ranger Minifigure from Target Exclusive LEGO Minifigures Set PromoThe Target LEGO Minifigures Exclusive Set includes four minifigures:

  • EXCLUSIVE LEGO Superboy Minifigure (LEGO DC Super Heroes)
  • LEGO Green Ninja Minifigure (LEGO Ninjago)
  • LEGO Park Ranger Minifigure (LEGO City)
  • LEGO Fire Lavertus Minifigure (LEGO Chima)

LEGO Ninjago Green Ninja Minifigure from Target LEGO Minifigures Set ExclusiveI was told by the store associates at the three Target stores nearest me that they were now out of the promo and not expecting it to be replenished, but I don’t necessarily know if I believe that, seeing as how we’re only a half-day into a seven-day LEGO promo. If Target really is totally out of this set already, that’s really poor foresight and planning on their part.

I’ll check back throughout the week to see if this set does get restocked–as I’m absolutely too cheap (and broke) right now to pay the $40-$60 that the Target Exclusive LEGO Minifigures Set is selling for on ebay, but for now the shelves at all my local stores are tragically devoid of this week’s intended promo set.

Are you psyched about the surprise release of a LEGO Superboy figure, or ticked off that LEGO has snuck out another rare and difficult-to-obtain LEGO DC Superheroes minifigure?

  1. Yes, if you do a search on “Mini Figure Gift Set” at Target.com, you can get it for $15. I am not amazed that people will try to sell for 3-4 times the price on Ebay, but it always does boggle my mind that people will actually pay that price before checking to see if they can get it for list price online at the store that is selling it.

But, then, I bought something coincidentally at Target.com this morning and had this appear free in my cart–but didn’t realize what it was as I was in a hurry. I thought it was a “Minecraft” item, and just kind of thought “whatever” as I am not into the Minecraft sets. Took a second look after I read this blog.

I rarely buy Legos in-store at Target as the stores near me do not usually carry anything I want (or I already have the items). And, if they do have something I want, I can usually get it cheaper at Target.com than in their stores (have that same problem with ToysRUs).

    • The problem is most people would never think to search “Mini Figure Gift Set” since the correct spelling would be “Minifigure”. Target spelled it wrong, and the only way to find the set on the site is to know that they did so. Good to know. Thanks!

      • Yes, and to tell you the truth, I am somewhat doubting that mis-spelling was accidental.

I don’t think they wanted people to find it, or at least make it difficult for them to. Certainly helps the inventory last longer. 🙂

  2. You aren’t the only one. Today i went to see my target store and they said that getting it free want an option but they said they had 3 or 2 more. But when me and my sister got there, there was absolutely nothing.my guess is they didn’t even have them out yet because how will they sell out in one day when my store isn’t even popular with legos.

  3. Not even gonna bother checking my local Target stores, target.com had two sets I haven’t gotten yet that added up to $50, and free shipping because of Christmas. Sweet.

I suppose Superboy is what everybody wants. I want Lavertus! Maybe I’ll put Superboy on eBay…

  4. Ppl are bastards. I ordered 2. 1 I am going to keep for myself. The other I am going to put on ebay for $16.40….the price it cost me with tax (shipping is free). I am going to include a huge note about how to find it at target.com.
I hate toy scalping. YES, collectors go on the hunt to try and find things…but so do kids. With limited resources.

    • Yes, I understand the sentiment. On the one hand, you would like to sell something you got at a good deal to someone with children who doesn’t have hundreds of dollars to spend on Legos. On the other hand, how does one sell on Ebay at a good deal without a toy scalper buying and selling at a higher price? Maybe there is a way, I just don’t know it. I remember once a woman did put in her description that she did not want “collectors” to buy, but someone who was buying for a child. Not sure if it worked though.

Honestly, if there was a Lego charity for kids, I’d probably donate to it. 🙂

Speaking of toy scalping, a few months ago my local Lego store told me of someone who called their store and tried to buy out all their Tower of Orthancs. They said they didn’t ship. He was from a couple states away and actually came to buy out all their towers. I guess he was trying to corner the market. They sold him most (told him it was all they had), and then just ordered some more. One of the thoughts that went through my head was, where does he store all that stuff?? Those are not small sets.

      • I feel ya. I went to target today to buy legos, clothes, dolls, socks for donation to a children’s charity and picked one up in person for myself. I don’t know what I will do with the two I ordered. Either ebay for cheap or just donate.
SIGH….damn collectors. I get it. Still makes me sad.

  5. I bought mine online via a Eurobricks link (I found out about it first this way). And any of the sets were available to reach the $50 threshold. So I stocked up on some of the smaller sets as gifts.

See if online ordering is still a possibility.

What upset me was this was a posted special in the Sunday newspaper and stores already released them previous to the Weekly Ad.
