While I was hanging out at the LEGO Store yesterday and taking photographs of all of the various The LEGO Movie sets, I wasn’t expecting to see anything else I hadn’t seen before. After all, the official release date for the majority of the LEGO 2014 sets isn’t until this Wednesday–1/1/2014–so there shouldn’t be anything else fresh out just yet.

Of course, this is all just a very long lead-in to me asserting that I was incorrect, and a set appeared before me for the very first time yesterday: the 2014 LEGO Ninjago Destructoid 70726 has now been released!

I haven’t the foggiest idea why LEGO opted to set the official release date for the 2014 LEGO Movie sets three days before the massive release of the rest of the LEGO 2014 sets, but the day has finally arrived! Although all of the LEGO Movie sets are now available for order online, I set off this morning to hit up a variety of stores and see just what I could find from the new The LEGO Movie sets. I had to drive a little bit and hit more stores than I expected, but I eventually managed to see the LEGO Movie Minifigures Series blind bags and every one of the LEGO Movie sets!

Given their decades of immense success and the thousands of extremely fun toys they’ve produced, LEGO has earned my trust and respect. Even so, occasionally LEGO will reveal something that will make me raise my eyebrow a little bit and make me wonder what in the world they’re thinking. Such was the case when I saw one of the big new LEGO 2014 themes for the first time: LEGO Mixels.

Having now read all of the available materials on LEGO Mixels and observing each 2014 LEGO Mixels set closely, I’m now willing to give Mixels the benefit of a doubt…

I’ve been waiting patiently for better quality photos to turn up before discussing any of the sets, but my patience has worn thin and I’m ready to start talking up the 2014 LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets now!

The LEGO Movie Minifigures Series Blind Bags Found and Bought in Germany

Last week several readers reported in that their local Target stores had mistakenly put the 2014 LEGO Minifigure Series 12 The LEGO Movie Minifigures 71004 blind bags out on the shelves, but at the registers the cashiers were refusing to let them purchase the figures ahead of the release date! Well, Target may have been more successful at stopping buyers from purchasing toys before their release date than they were stopping hackers from stealing their customers’ credit card numbers (ouch–low blow), but today someone finally managed to purchase the LEGO 71004 Movie Minifigures and was kind enough to send in their photos…

When discussing the LEGO 2014 sets the last few months, I’ve made a habit of saying that they’ll be released “by January 2014”, because I always fully believe the new sets will sneak out early. But I haven’t been applying those words to the 2014 LEGO Minifigures Series 12, as those are the LEGO Movie Minifigures series blind bags, and there’s no way stores would be allowed to sell those before the January 1st, 2014 street date.

Well, it turns out I was both right… and wrong. LEGO 71004 Minifigures Series 12 has now been sighted in the United States!

I dropped by my nearest LEGO Store today to see if the rumors I’d heard were true–and they were! Many of the LEGO 2014 sets that have previously only been sighted at the inflated Toys R Us prices have arrived at local LEGO Stores. But that’s not all–there’s something magical at the LEGO Brand Stores as well, something that Toys R Us failed to beat them to the punch on–the entire wave of the LEGO Disney Princess 2014 sets!
