Earlier today I posted my thoughts on the just-announced LEGO Marvel Summer 2016 sets over on my Marvel blog, and now it’s time to take a (textual) look at the Distinguished Competition with this summer’s wave of DC Super Heroes. There’s not a lot to be excited about quantitatively in the LEGO DC Summer 2016 sets–there’s only three sets and one is a Juniors set–but there’s plenty to get psyched about qualitatively! Coming this summer: all-new minifigures including Blue Beetle, Katana, Killer Moth, redesigned Killer Croc and Scarecrow, and more!

Although “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is one of the most popular and renowned movies in the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was a pretty big let-down for LEGO fans, as there were exactly zero boxed sets released for the blockbuster movie. But TLG isn’t making that same mistake again, as they’ve got three sets on deck for “Captain America: Civil War”–and the LEGO Black Panther Pursuit 76047 set will give us our first mass-release Winter Soldier and Black Panther minifigures!

I had been planning on not discussing the final Winter 2015 LEGO DC Superheroes set until more than one photo of the set had come out, but sharp-eyed readers noticed the set right away in my photos preview of the DC Mighty Micros sets yesterday and demanded to hear more. And thus, though we only have one image to go on–for now–let’s take a look at the sole comics-based LEGO Batman set coming this winter: it’s the Suicide Squad-inspired LEGO Batman Gotham City Cycle Chase 76053!

It seems a bit ironic, but as things turn out, I’ve already talked about all of the LEGO Star Wars Winter 2016 sets, so there’s nothing Star Wars-related for me to discuss on this momentous day. Alas! But there’s plenty to discuss on the superhero-ing front, including the official reveals of the last Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice set! Having been strongly underwhelmed by the first two San Diego Comic-Con 2015 LEGO sets being sold at the show–Throne of Ultron and Dagobah–I wasn’t expecting much from the third set revealed. But as it turns out, the third set really is the charm! While it may be overpriced, the SDCC 2015 exclusive LEGO DC Action Comics #1 Superman set recreating Superman’s first appearance is definitely a fun and inspired choice for a comic book convention exclusive!

The moment of truth that most LEGO collectors dread each year has arrived: the San Diego Comic-Con 2015 exclusive LEGO Minifigures are now beginning to be announced! As usual, only a few hundred of each minifigure will be available at SDCC 2015, and you can only win them through a “random” lottery drawing. I was pleased when the Collector (an obscure, mostly unpopular character) was last year’s Marvel exclusive, but LEGO will not be making any friends this year with the SDCC 2015 Exclusive LEGO All-New Captain America Minifigure!
