I usually have pretty good instincts when it comes to predicting how well LEGO sets are going to sell at retail, but I was totally off the mark regarding one of the new sub-themes introduced in 2014. Not only did the LEGO Star Wars Microfighters Series 1 sets not bomb like I thought they were going to, but I even grew to like the sets myself and ended up buying them! And in January 2015, LEGO will release another half-dozen chibi-fied little Star Wars vehicles–the Microfighters Series 2 LEGO Star Wars 2015 sets have now been revealed!

With 2015 being the first year with a Star Wars movie being released in theaters in over a decade (the Clone Wars movie absolutely does not count), most Star Wars licensees are focusing on Original Trilogy Star Wars toys and collectibles in 2015. LEGO…? Not so much. There’s only one true regular-sized LEGO Star Wars 2015 set celebrating the original trilogy, and exactly how canonical that set is is definitely up in the air: it’s the LEGO Star Wars T-16 Skyhopper 75081!

Things were looking pretty grim for the LEGO Star Wars Rebels Empire in 2014, where the total count of LEGO Star Wars Rebels set vehicles released was Rebels: 2, Empire: 0. Luckily for the Empire (and bad for civilians everywhere), the first Imperial LEGO Star Wars Rebels vehicles will be arriving as part of the LEGO Star Wars 2015 sets wave in January. And what better place to start than with a long-forgotten design abandoned from the Empire Strikes Back? Finally coming to stores this winter: it’s the LEGO Star Wars AT-DP 75083!

I know it’s probably sacrilege to say this, but I think I enjoyed more moments of happiness and enjoyment from watching the six seasons of the Star Wars Clone Wars cartoon series than all of the Star Wars movies put together. So while I’m still rather skeptical after seeing the premiere of Star Wars Rebels, I definitely want to fall in love with the series and buy tons of merch for it. LEGO is hoping I’ll want to as well, as the LEGO Star Wars 2015 sets wave coming in January will include several more LEGO Rebels sets, including LEGO Star Wars Ezra’s Speeder Bike 75090!

Even so, sometimes it’s necessary for me to go and play on the beach and get myself (and all my stuff) covered in sand for the good of this blog. This is one of those times. After seeing the LEGO Star Wars 2014 Advent Calendar at the New York Toy Fair 2014, I came back and raved about the set–and then pined away that it would be at least six months before I could own it. Fast-forward six months plus to today, and my melodrama is finally able to come to an end! I’ve been obsessively hitting up at least one of my nearby LEGO Stores almost every day this month, and thankfully for my sanity, persistence has finally paid off! After being released overseas earlier this summer, the entire wave of LEGO Star Wars Summer 2014 sets has now arrived in United States stores! This wave includes some vehicles that are all-new to the LEGO Star Wars universe, as well as some long-awaited remakes of popular sets like the LEGO Mos Eisley Cantina and the new LEGO Imperial Star Destroyer!

I really want to make a “Christmas in July” joke, but that’s so overplayed that I’m going to have to content myself with just referencing the phrase. But as trite as the term “Christmas in July” has become, there’s really no way around mentioning it when discussing one of my favorite days of the year: Hallmark Ornament Premiere Day! Hallmark Ornament Premiere comes but twice a year (no, really–there’s one in October, too), and on this magical day Hallmark stores throughout the country begin selling the year’s new ornaments.
