When we go for too long without any LEGO sets being released or any major LEGO news leaking out, I begin to go a little bit crazy and start doing weird things. What type of weird things? Well, for one, I make trips to the LEGO Store even though there won’t be anything new in the store. Why? To see a free promo set that I’m never going to have the opportunity to build or own anyway. Yes, it’s boredom-borne desperation time here in Bricks and Bloks world, so I headed out to my local LEGO Store to check out the LEGO August 2014 Monthly Mini Model Build Monkey set in person!

Thanks to the monumental success of The LEGO Movie, LEGO is “cool” again in pop culture and back in the public eye like never before! As a result of this phenomenon, many artists have been inspired to create limited-edition LEGO T-Shirts this year with original artwork. While I’ve always been a limited-edition Tee Shirt nut, it’s gotten really out of hand this year with the cornucopia of great LEGO shirt designs that have been temporarily available. Ever since it was announced last month that Europe would be getting the LEGO Legends of Chima Worriz’ Fire Bike 30265 polybag promo set as a freebie in July 2014, Chima fans have been writing me and asking if they should be worried about the set not coming to the United States. I’ve been telling them to sit tight for just a little while longer, as the set would almost certainly make it to America shortly after the UK and the rest of Europe. That faith has been rewarded–the 30265 LEGO Worriz’ Fire Bike promo polybag has now been announced for a North America release!

The last several weeks have been unbearably slow as far as LEGO news and releases go. I’ve literally been making trips out to the store for no reason whatsoever other than the futile hope of discovering previously unknown polybag sets just showing up in stores at random.

As soon as word leaked out regarding the release of this year’s LEGO Creator Expert Mini Cooper 10242, LEGO fans began speculating about the possibility that LEGO would release a LEGO Mini Mini Cooper (Mini Cooper Mini?) as a promotional item alongside the LEGO Mini Cooper 10242. I was doubtful of whether or not we’d get a LEGO Mini Cooper Mk. II polybag right away, but I can’t be skeptical anymore: the Mini LEGO Mini Cooper 40109 polybag promo set is arriving this summer!

Unlike basically every other line of books on the market, just as many (if not more) people buy each LEGO book released not for the books themselves (many don’t even read them), but for the bonus exclusive LEGO minifigure packaged with the book. Earlier in the month I fell in love with the exclusive LEGO Firox minifigure packed with the LEGO Chima Dictionary, but today we finally got photographic confirmation of a figure that will likely appeal to a lot more people: the LEGO Star Wars The Dark Side exclusive LEGO Emperor Palpatine minifigure!

Sometimes in my decrepit old age (I’ll be the Grim Reaper-watch age of 32 this year) I forget to talk about things. That’s really my only excuse for why, up until now, I completely forgot to discuss what just may be the most anticipated and talked-about set that LEGO debuted at the New York Toy Fair 2014! We’d previously seen the original submitted design, but at the 2014 Toy Fair LEGO officially unveiled the redesigned LEGO Ghostbusters Minifigures and Ecto-1, as well as revealing the set price and release date!

ORIGINAL 4/26/2014: Confession time: I hate roller coasters with a fiery passion. My stomach can’t handle rides with drops, and I hate rides that get me soaked almost as much. At most amusement parks, there’s a grand total of one ride that I really and truly love–and it’s coming in LEGO form this summer! Sometimes it’s called the Scrambler, sometimes it’s called the Twist, and my wife calls it “the spin and barf”, but in June 2014, it’ll be coming as the “Mixer” in the spectacular LEGO Fairground Mixer 10244 set that has just been unveiled!
