I have a nearly-uncountable number of photos and videos from New York Toy Fair 2015 that I haven’t gotten around to posting in articles yet, but before I get back to 2015 Toy Fair coverage there’s some breaking news that needs to come first.

For months Star Wars fans have wondered about the identity of the exclusive minifigure packed in since the LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia Updated and Expanded book went up for order, and now we know: it’s a new LEGO Prototype Boba Fett minifigure!

When it comes to the question of “What is the worst-kept secret in major upcoming LEGO sets?” over the past few years, my immediate answer is “the LEGO Marvel SHIELD Helicarrier”. News of the LEGO Avengers Helicarrier set’s impending arrival has spread like wildfire for months, and every day someone has asked me when it will appear. Well, finally I can give a different answer today: the LEGO S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier 76042 has now been revealed!!

UPDATE 2/17/2015: The LEGO SHIELD Helicarrier is now available for order online! (Make sure you log into your LEGO VIP account, though, or it won’t show up!)

March 2015 LEGO Stores Calendar Promos Deals & Events!

LEGO must have decided that we were growing complacent, so they decided to throw us a curveball and switch things up a bit this month! While we can usually count on the next month’s LEGO Store Calendar being posted online one month and one day ahead of time, we get merely one month’s notice of the upcoming March 2015 LEGO Store deals, promos and events.

But while waiting the extra day was agony, at least LEGO has some good stuff cooked up for us on the LEGO Store March 2015 Calendar–including two free promos, some major new sets being launched–and the return of Double VIP Points!

Earlier this month, images leaked out from Hong Kong of a previously-unannounced LEGO Bain minifigure. With no new LEGO The Hobbit sets scheduled for release in 2015, it seemed almost certain that this exclusive Bain figure would be the pack-in for this year’s Target Exclusive The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Pack. And as it so happens–it is! But why settle for one free LEGO Minifigure when you can have two?! A LEGO Bard the Bowman minifigure will also be included with the set!

I had to go out and combat the treacherous cold last night in a mighty quest for sugar-free Rock Star (don’t ask), and my voyage brought me back to my nearest Target store. The energy drink was obtained–but more importantly, I got my first look at the new Valentine’s Day section, and the two LEGO polybags in it… including the LEGO Friends Smoothie Cart 30302 and the brand-new LEGO Swamp Police Helicopter 30311!

A lot of the time, I skip writing reviews for LEGO free promo polybag sets. They’re not composed of many pieces, there’s not much build to speak of, and there’s not much point to reviewing something that people aren’t going to pay any money for anyway. But the January 2015 LEGO AT-DP polybag is a little bit different, because even though it was originally “free”, it sold out from the LEGO Shop in two days, and now collectors have to pay ~$12 to get the 30274 LEGO AT-DP on the aftermarket. For free this set got an unquestionable recommendation, but what about if you have to pay for it…?

Ever since it was announced at the end of November 2014, LEGO Star Wars collectors had been looking forward to the free LEGO AT-DP promo polybag available at the LEGO Store in January 2015.

But I guess that the old saying of “if you snooze, you lose” is true in this case, because I’ve now received official confirmation from the online LEGO Shop that the 30276 LEGO AT-DP is completely sold out!

Despite the fact that the LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham video game was one of the biggest games of 2014, LEGO really didn’t produce very many new LEGO Batman sets to coincide with the release of the game. But 2015 is sweeping in to the rescue, and one of the exclusive Winter 2015 polybags will further expand the LEGO Batman 3 universe in toy form!

I make it a point to see every movie that comes out that has its own LEGO sets (even “The Lone Ranger” *shudder*), so it won’t shock anybody that I went out New Year’s Eve to see The Hobbit The Battle of Five Armies. The movie was, uh… not my favorite Peter Jackson film, but I did like at least a few of the characters.

And one of them just may be the final LEGO Lord of the Rings figure ever produced–the exclusive LEGO Bain minifigure has now been revealed!

Most people my age stay up partying for hours past midnight on New Year’s Eve. Me? I was in bed within five minutes of the ball dropping on TV. See, it’s important to me to be able to get up bright and early each January 1st, as it’s always quite a big day for LEGO collectors. 10246 LEGO Detective’s Office Modular Set Up for Order!

When grainy photos of the box for the 2015 LEGO Detective’s Office 10246 Modular Building leaked out earlier this week, I did my very best to talk about the set without actually going into any level of detail about it. Why? Because I was saving myself for the beautiful, hi-res images of the LEGO 10246 Dectective’s Office that I knew were only a few days away! Thankfully, I don’t have to exercise restraint anymore–the LEGO Detective’s Office modular building has finally been fully revealed, and now I can talk about the set freely in all its glory!
