It seems like only yesterday that the LEGO Ninjago theme made its triumphant return to stores, but it was actually almost a full six months ago that the Ninjago Rebooted LEGO sets hit stores. And being a half-year since the last sets were released can only mean one thing–it’s time for brand new LEGO Ninjago sets to hit stores! And that’s just what’s occurred, as the two (count ’em, two) new summer 2014 LEGO Ninjago sets have now arrived in stores in the United States and other countries!
I haven’t always been a major Ninjago fan, but the theme has grown on me over the years, and I was definitely saddened when it appeared that the Ninjago LEGO theme was going to come to a premature end in 2013. So while the the whopping two 2014 LEGO Ninjago summer sets being released are less new sets than we’re getting for other themes this summer, it’s certainly better than the depressing z-e-r-o Ninjago sets that were released in the summer of 2013.
Unfortunately, I’ve only spotted this set at Toys R Us thus far. I wasn’t willing to pay the $131.99 that Toys R Us was charging for the set, but I won’t flinch at picking the set up for its MSRP of $120 once it shows up at other stores.
If you want the new 2014 LEGO Nya minifigure (and I do), then this is the set you’re going to have to buy, as Nya is exclusive to the 70728 Battle for Ninjago City set. There’s also three Nindroid minifigures included, as well as Zane, Jay, Lloyd, and the exclusive LEGO Overlord minifigure. This is an expensive set, no doubt, but at least it’s got a great minifigure selection to accompany a terrific-looking building!
The other final Ninjago set for 2014 is the LEGO X-1 Ninja Charger 70727. As I said, I usually don’t like vehicle sets–especially in Ninjago. Usually. But this particular set is so over-the-top and wacky that I know it’s going to find its way into my collection. Flaming ninja missile-launching sports car…? Yes, please.
We get another LEGO Kai minifigure that’s already been released earlier this year, as well as a pair of LEGO Nindroids that are good for army-building, though not particularly exciting. The LEGO Recon Nindroid figure is sort of interesting, at least, but obviously not a big reason that anyone will drop $39.99 (or $43.99 at Toys R Us) for the LEGO Ninjago X-1 Ninja Charger.
Thus far I’ve heard reports of the 2014 summer LEGO Ninjago sets being spotted in the UK (United Kingdom) as well as the United States, but I imagine that the sets are about to hit most international countries (if they haven’t already). Toys R Us and LEGO Stores tend to get the “early release” shipments for LEGO sets, but other store chains like Target and Walmart will likely have their own new Ninjago summer 2014 sets stocked by June 2014.
Now that the final two LEGO Ninjago sets of the year are finally in stores, will you be off hunting for either (or both) of this year’s last ninja-tastic construction sets?
