Lord of the Rings is such a grandiose production that it’s often difficult to pare the majesty of any particular scene down to something that can be contained in a little set for less than $13. But coming up this summer, LEGO has found a way to recreate one of the most crazy Lord of the Rings battles in LEGO form in one cheap, beautiful little set. As part of the Summer 2013 wave of LEGO Lord of the Rings sets, it’s LEGO The Wizard Battle 79005…
While AFOLs tend to like their LEGO Lord of the Rings sets on the larger and more elaborate side, kids tend to be happier with less. And if LEGO was going to make one cheap LEGO Lord of the Rings “battle pack” set for kids, what better scene to spotlight than the Wizard Battle from Fellowship of the Ring? Kids love magic and wizards, so it stands to reason that they’ll be attracted to a $12.99 set featuring the two main wizards of the LOTR Saga.
While we’ve had a LEGO Gandalf minifigure included in numerous sets already (as part of both the LEGO Lord of the Rings and LEGO The Hobbit themes), the Saruman minifigure included as part of LEGO 79005 The Wizard Battle is presently exclusive to this set.
Saruman is probably the best known antagonist from the Lord of the Rings movies (Sauron never really manifests in physical form after the prologue), so he’s a hotly-desired minifigure that will solely ompel many collectors to pick up this LEGO Wizard Battle set. The set also includes an exclusive LEGO Palantir, which looks downright amazing in LEGO form.
Rumor has it that we’ll see an expensive ~$150 LEGO Orthanc set released as an exclusive this summer. If that’s true (and I’ve heard the idea enough places that I believe it is), then this cute little 79005 LEGO The Wizard Battle set will be a nice alternative to satisfy kids and collectors who either can’t or don’t want to shell out ~$150 for an Orthanc-themed LEGO Lord of the Rings set.
The LEGO Lord of the Rings The Wizard Battle 79005 set is part of the Summer 2013 LEGO Lord of the Rings wave. The set will contain 113 pieces and retail for $12.99 when it ships to stores in June 2013.
