I was genuinely starting to wonder if LEGO was just not going to confirm their final few San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusive LEGO sets and minifigures before the SDCC 2014 Preview Night tomorrow, but with one day to go, LEGO has successfully managed to debut all of their con exclusives (though they certainly cut it a little close)! The final two show exclusives included a free promo minifigure and another limited-edition $39.99 set, and both are Batman-themed! It’s the SDCC 2014 Exclusive LEGO Batman Classic Batmobile and LEGO Batman of Zur-En-Arrh minifigure!
The set contains 152 pieces and will retail for $39.99 at the LEGO Booth at SDCC 2014 (and then be scalped shortly thereafter for $200–*sigh*).
We’re in a golden age of Batman ’66 merch after very little had been made for the series in decades, and this is going to be almost universally heralded as the “best” of LEGO’s SDCC 2014 exclusives. Even so, I am disappointed that LEGO picked such a popular and fan-loved vehicle to make a limited convention exclusive.
If there’s any bright side to this, it’s that the classic Batman and Robin minifigures are also available in the mass-market LEGO Batman Juniors sets for as low as $29.99, so fans who just want to have a classic LEGO Batman minifigure aren’t totally screwed by this convention exclusive.
In addition to the Classic Batman ’66 Batmobile, LEGO will also be giving away a free exclusive LEGO Batman of Zur-En-Arrh minifigure on either the Friday or Saturday of SDCC 2014 via random selection. LEGO hasn’t published an image of the actual LEGO Zur-En-Arrh Batman minifigure yet as of writing, but he’s basically just going to be a repaint of a regular LEGO Batman minifigure in the crazy Zur-En-Arrh red and purple color scheme.
If you want the Classic Batmobile LEGO set and you’re not attending SDCC 2014, though, it will not be cheap! The 2014 Comic Con Exclusive LEGO Classic Batmobile set has already been selling for $150-$200 online, and I don’t expect the prices to come down very much at all on this particular set. If you want this set and don’t want to pay the big bucks, your best bet very well may be to beg someone you know attending the show to try to snag one for you.
Thoughts on the LEGO Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile set, LEGO collectors? Is this a good exclusive for the 2014 Comic Con International, or did LEGO pick a vehicle that is going to be way too popular and in-demand to make a limited edition exclusive?
Being a Batman fan and a lego fan, this post made me cry…tears that were a mixture of joy and frustration. In all seriousness, the Batmobile being an exclusive is doesn’t do any good for them, they would make a lot more money on it being sold in stores.
If you honestly think this is going to be the only version of the classic 66, you have a lot to learn.
possibly the poorest representation of the classic ’66 I have ever seen. Lego dropped the ball on this one.
well, remember., like it says on the box, it’s only a sample. With the confirmation of continuing the Lego batman line into 2015, we don’t know how many sets will be released,
and a different design of the Adam West era batmobile may be sold to the general public soon. However, we probably won’t know for a while..
