I mentioned a couple days ago that the LEGO marketplace is currently engaged in a vicious struggle, with every big retailer vying for our LEGO dollars. This battle has led to ubiquitous free promo LEGO sets available over the past month or so, including the long-awaited LEGO Rocket Raccoon polybag that was free at Toys R Us at the end of November. But Toys R Us isn’t done with us (and our dollars) yet! I mentioned last week that making several trips to Target is part of my daily routine since a new Target store opened up a 90 second drive from my apartment. Today was one of those days that a short drive to reach the store paid off, as I was careless on my first trip in and only took a cursory walk past the aisle. The joke was on me, as Target had an unexpected promo that I had to go back for (after it was sold out)–the Target Exclusive LEGO Minifigures set, containing a LEGO Superboy minifigure and three other figures! Because earlier today, the German LEGO website temporarily uploaded images from the first LEGO 2015 catalog–including the first gorgeous, hi-res photo of LEGO Minifigures Series 13 71008! The characters in the set are exactly what we expected, but knowing their names and seeing their glory are two different things…

While the sellers putting almost unquestionably-stolen items up for sale on Taobao are absolutely to be condemned, the prototype photos that they’ve uploaded are a good source of information, as now we know an additional five minifigures that will be part of the LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures Series 2, including LEGO Comic Book Guy, Smithers and Professor Frink!

The amount of Rocket Raccoon toys and collectibles available at retail this year is surreal to me. As a lifelong Rocket Raccoon fanboy, I never thought the day would come that any piece of Rocket Raccoon merch would show up in a retail store–much less dozens of Rocket Raccoon figures. But thanks to the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, Rocket Raccoon is now a star for eternity. And as such, he gets an honor previously reserved only for headliner Marvel characters like Thor and Iron Man–his own LEGO minifigure polybag! Many collectors (myself included) still weren’t totally sold on the Mixels concept when LEGO Mixels Series 1 was in stores, which has led to a lot of fans who got on-board later on lacking the tribes from LEGO Mixels Series 1.
