It was less than a month ago that I was in mourning for the LEGO Lord of the Rings theme, as I lamented the release of what was expected to be the final two Lord of the Rings minifigures: the Bard and Bain figures included with the Target exclusive Hobbit Battle of Five Armies Blu-Ray release. But things have unexpectedly changed since last month in a big way with the announcement of the dimension-hopping LEGO Dimensions video game. And as part of the first wave of expansion packs, Lord of the Rings returns: it’s the LEGO Dimensions Gollum, Gimli and Legolas sets!

Of the six themes brought together for the first wave of LEGO Dimensions sets, there’s only one that hasn’t had its own theatrical movie released to its name: Ninjago. Even so, LEGO has big plans for Ninjago (including a theatrical movie!), and part of their plan to get everyone’s favorite ninjas into the public eye must be associating them with iconic characters like Batman, Gandalf and Marty McFly! It’s been a pretty slow news month thus far, but it turns out that it was just the calm before the storm! Rather than allowing us all to fall into complacency, LEGO has now dropped a cubic mother-lode of news on us, with all of the just-announced LEGO Dimensions sets (including the Starter Pack, Team Sets, Hero Packs, Level Pack and Fun Packs)! LEGO has been counting down toward something really big happening, and now we know exactly what it is–a brand-new video game franchise: LEGO Dimensions! Despite the fact that work scheduling conflicts have prevented us from attending it more than a whopping one time, Star Wars Celebration is probably my personal favorite convention. I badly wanted to attend Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this month, but it just was not to be. I’ve been seething with jealousy over missing the Funko Star Wars exclusives for the past week, and now I’ve got one more reason to be envious: a brand new mini Star Wars Celebration Anaheim Exclusive LEGO Tatooine set has now been revealed!

I’ve been talking about the LEGO Legends of Chima theme since months before the first sets were released, so it feels weird knowing this is the last time I’ll ever talk about an upcoming Chima set again (barring some unforeseen miracle resurrection for theme). As soon as it was announced that a LEGO Jurassic World video game was going to be released covering all four of the Jurassic Park movies, Jurassic Park series fans began daydreaming about what kind of exclusive promo figure would be used as a bonus incentive to tempt collectors to pre-order the video game.
