While LEGO almost unilaterally wins the battle for all the best licenses, there are still some legendary brands that they’ve never had, and one of them is Star Trek. Kre-O Star Trek was an indisputable flop, but MEGA Brands thinks they can do better with the license. And at New York Toy Fair 2015, the Star Trek Mega Bloks Enterprise, Transporter Room, Klingon Bird of Prey and figures made their grand debut!
But at this week’s NYCC 2015, they finally tipped their hand, revealing not only that they’re doing the classic Original Star Trek (for now), but showing off the NCC-1701 Enterprise and several other ships as well!
You cannot have a Star Trek line of anything without the Enterprise, and MEGA Brands is wisely starting with the most iconic version of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
“My” Enterprise is the Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation (followed closely by the NX-01 from Enterprise), but this was unquestionably the best choice to start with for the line’s longevity. Hopefully this is a hit and the other ships will get their due as well.
I expect that many people will complain about the number of actual bricks that go into the nacelles on this Mega Bloks Enterprise, but due to the shape and design of them, I’d be very concerned about stability if the nacelles were made of the usual hundreds and hundreds of bricks.
Specialized pieces make up the back of the nacelles.
Of course, while the Star Trek Enterprise Mega Bloks set is clearly the headliner, that’s not all MEGA Brands showed at New York Comic Con 2015…
What’s the Enterprise without an alien ship to fight, right…? And so, the Mega Bloks Klingon D-7 Battle Cruiser will be launching right alongside the Mega Bloks USS Enterprise!
The Mega Bloks Klingon Battle Cruiser will come with one figure–a classic Klingon.
The Klingon Battle Cruiser Mega Bloks set looks cute and all, but also a little bit small and simplistic. I wonder if MEGA Brands doesn’t have the faith in alien ships yet to create a larger and more elaborate (and expensive) version of the Klingon Battle Cruiser?
And last but not least, we have what I know plenty of folks have been waiting to see–the Star Trek Mega Bloks figures with the Mega Bloks Transporter Room!
This legitimately may be the best-looking Star Trek transporter room toy/model playset that’s ever been designed by any company.
The shimmering effect on the walls of the transporters looks really, really cool!
And I love the translucent Star Trek minifigures that will be available to simulate being partially-transported!
And as these are Mega Bloks Collectors figures, that means they’ll be nearly super-articulated (a la Halo and Call of Duty), with fully-articulated elbows and knees. I don’t necessarily need a lot of articulation in my Star Trek guys, but I guess it’s nice to know that it’s there!
I love the inclusion of random Starfleet personnel, as well as iconic variants of Kirk and Spock.
All of the Star Trek Mega Bloks sets are scheduled for a fall 2016 release, but with the way MEGA Brands schedules things, that could be anywhere from June 2016 to November 2016. Hopefully we’ll get a better idea of their specific target date soon. No pricing details are available at this time.
What do you think of the first Mega Bloks Star Trek sets, brick fans? Is MEGA Brands doing Trek justice, or will you not be satisfied until Star Trek comes to the most popular construction block manufacturer in the world?
I’m hooked!…never bought Mega Blocks , but my son did have a few sets as an infant. What’s the quality vs Lego in your opinion….is it worth grabbing these sets? I’m a “Next Generation” Captain Jean Luc Picard fan at heart, watched every episiode! Loved “Voyager” as much, if not more, all thanks to Captain Kathryn Janeway, (you go girl!)
Should I go for these, or do you question the quality of the Mega Blocks in comparison to Lego? LMK
I’m so happy ….didn’t like the new Lego theme…Nexo Knights.?

The quality of Mega Bloks has improved IMMENSELY in the last five years. I used to think they were junk, but now their Halo sets are some of the best construction sets on the market. You’ll love the super-articulated figures, too, even if they lack the cuteness appeal of LEGO minifigures.
If you think you’re going to like this line, then I absolutely recommend giving it a try (though it may take the Star Trek design team a little while to hit their stride).
AS much as I love Star Trek, I never loved the original series, so that’s good for my wallet!
On the quality of Mega Bloks, I’ll go as far as to say that they actually improved the quality of their bloks beyond those of Lego.
I’m torn. On the one hand I love Star Trek. On the other, I am very wary of manufacturers other than Lego, and the “one true build” purist in me will always whisper “But it’s not PROPER Lego” when I look at these sets.
That being said, I am a fan of how Mega Bloks have made the Enterprise. And Mega Bloks might be cheaper – the 1701 that size in Lego would be expensive (but I would’ve bought it anyway). Finally, it’s a million times better than the rubbish we got last time this was attempted, so I’m willing to look forward to the release of this and more information on prices and features.
Gizmodo has piece count estimate and price for the Enterprise: over 3000 bricks and $250. As expected, that’s better value than Lego, and you even get 2 figures with it – Kirk and Spock in dress uniform. The engines also light up.
If they do a ‘mini Enterprise’ the same size as the Klingon ship I’ll probably get all three. Prices for the other sets are also available online elsewhere.
FYI, the transporter also glows in the dark, and can be rebuilt to match the ISS universe version (from the classic Mirror Mirror episode).
Ok, I’m sold! Keep me posted on the release! TRU or Target, just do keep us informed as you always do so well!
I hope the line does well, would love to see later versions of the Enterprise represented!
I won’t be buying this set. Lieutenant Uhura looks like a man in a dress. And….unlike like some who posted, I still like Legos better than Mega Bloks (and I absolutely believe Legos still holds the quality title between those two). I do have some Mega Bloks sets–I think they did a good job on the SpongeBob stuff, but these Star Trek kits just aren’t doing if for me. Of all the Star Trek series, I actually like Deep Space Nine the best, so maybe if they ever do sets on that I will take a second look.
Lego probably has more than they can handle with all the Star Wars sets they will be making given the new movies for the next half decade or so. Perhaps they (and maybe Disney) perceived Star Trek as competing with Star Wars. I think, though, it would have been fun having Star Trek Legos meeting Star Wars and mixing up the aliens at the Cantina! Oh, well…who knows what the future holds. We know licensing agreements can always change hands.
Take a look again! There’s a Sisko in the minifigure lineup of the Transporter room, straight out of Trials and Tribbleations!
Whoa, I missed that! Thanks for pointing it out.
