NYCC 2014 LEGO Booth Photos! (LEGO Bionicle 2015)

LEGO didn’t issue their usual press release advertising their presence at New York Comic Con 2014, so I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect from the NYCC 2014 LEGO booth. As it turned out, LEGO decided to forgo their usual “NYCC 2014 LEGO Store”-style booth at the show entirely, opting for a booth totally devoted to promoting the LEGO Bionicle 2015 sets and theme instead…

I was really disappointed when LEGO chose not to attend NYCC 2013, as I’d really enjoyed their exclusives and item premieres and such as the preceding New York Comic Con events. So I was pretty ecstatic when it was confirmed that LEGO would be attending NYCC 2014. Unfortunately, the showing wasn’t really what I’d hoped for.

Basically, the booth consists of an awesome LEGO Bionicle Mask (I think they said the Mask of Ultimate Power) floating on a pillar, with a display case showing off the first six 2015 LEGO Bionicle sets to its left. And… That’s pretty much it.

Around the back of the booth, there’s a table set up where you can pick up two free LEGO Bionicle 2015 mini-posters, and another table where you can trade LEGO your personal information (as if they didn’t already have it) in exchange for a chance to win all of the Winter 2015 Bionicle LEGO sets.

I’ve heard that there may be some sort of exclusive NYCC 2014 LEGO Bionicle mask giveaway going on, but if so, it definitely wasn’t being given out at any of the many, many times that I stopped by the LEGO New York Comic Con 2014 booth.

I’m happy to see LEGO being big into promoting the return of Bionicle next year, but disappointed by the lack of on-site New York Comic-Con 2014 exclusives for sale, display cases with more than just the Bionicle sets we’ve already seen leaked, or the ever-popular exclusive minifigure lottery (which SDCC continues to get).

Thoughts on the LEGO NYCC 2014 booth, LEGO fans? Disappointed to see LEGO focusing entirely on LEGO Bionicle, or are you thrilled to see Bionicle getting such a huge promotional push to kick start its return in 2015?

NYCC 2014 LEGO Booth Photos! (LEGO Bionicle 2015) — 11 Comments

  1. Not to be rude, but for like a month there have been pics of the new bionicles on the web, and the cite has been updated already.( btw the big mask is called the mask of ceation).

    • I’m well aware that leaked photos of the sets have been circulating since last week. Even so, these are the sets LEGO brought to display at NYCC 2014. I can only report on what LEGO brings to the show–I can’t magic up anything to photograph other than what they brought. And besides, this is the first time LEGO has officially allowed their fans to see the 2015 LEGO Bionicle sets publicly, and the first time anyone has seen the actual toys in person and not stolen official photos.

  3. So they just simply slap on a new head, call them bionicles and give them the same story? They should have just let it die, I keep seeing hero Factory with bionicle-ish looking heads. Disappointed.

    • There’s a LOT more separating these new BIONICLE sets from Hero Factory than just the new heads/masks. For one thing, they all have gear functions and dual-function weapons, two defining characteristics of many classic BIONICLE sets. For another, there are lots of tribal fantasy motifs in the sets and marketing that would have been completely out-of-place in Hero Factory’s sci-fi setting. And also, the theme has a completely different storyline and some big changes to the visual language.

  4. So disappointing if you’re not into Bionicle. The giveaway was a clear Tahu mask. Limited to 1,500, they gave a few hundred away each morning as soon as the doors opened. They’re all over ebay if you want to see it.

  5. Good coverage. For me, the LEGO BIONICLE presence at NYCC helped make it the experience of a lifetime, but I’m probably a bit biased because a) I’ve never been to an event of this magnitude before so I had little idea what to expect and b) I was one of the guests at the invite-only BIONICLE reveal panel and LEGO store event on Thursday, so I got the real VIP treatment.

    Even though you were underwhelmed, I’m glad you got such good pictures. This site has some of the best photos of this display in my opinion because all the sets are in decent focus in every photo, so you get a good look at the back view of the sets — something a lot of people’s coverage including my own didn’t show quite so clearly.

  6. The Pohatu figure looks amazing, but the rest are borderline cool. Can’t wait to see the villains!
