I’m back from the big city, and I didn’t come back from New York Comic Con 2014 empty-handed! Although LEGO didn’t show off any new products other than the first LEGO Bionicle 2014 sets at NYCC 2014 (and didn’t bring anything to sell–period), LEGO did have one very cool item available for LEGO collectors: the NYCC 2014 LEGO Bionicle Exclusive Tahu Mask! LEGO was only giving out a few hundred clear Tahu Masks per day (resulting in the NYCC 2014 Bionicle masks selling for $40-$100 online), but I was lucky enough to snag one for my collection and to take hi-res photos of…
Given how ridiculously difficult it often is to get any of the San Diego Comic Con exclusive LEGO Minifigures, I didn’t have a lot of hope for grabbing one of the 2014 NYCC Exclusive LEGO Bionicle Tahu Masks at the show. But to my surprise, I was able to just walk right over to the booth Friday morning at New York Comic Con 2014, where my badge was marked off and I was handed one of the LEGO Bionicle NYCC Exclusive Tahu Masks just like that!
The bubbles on the clamshell packaging of the LEGO Bionicle clear Tahu Mask are extremely fragile, and mine came with little indentations already in the bubble. Several other people that I talked to at the convention said that their Tahu Mask exclusives came with the bubbles pushed in as well, so I suspect that the majority of the run will have damaged bubbles like this.
The 2014 New York Comic Con exclusive LEGO Bionicle Tahu Mask is currently selling for around $40 online, and with the clear Tahu mask being so limited, I have a feeling that that price isn’t likely to go down much in the future (in fact, I have a hunch it’s actually going to get more valuable).
What do you think of the first item released for the revived LEGO Bionicle theme, LEGO fans? Is the clear LEGO Bionicle Tahu Mask a must-have for your collection, or is this exclusive something you can live without?
