People ask me a lot what the “Bloks” in “Bricks and Bloks” is for. It is, of course, not a misspelling–it’s for Mega Bloks. I don’t do a ton of coverage of Mega Bloks here anymore, as most readers don’t seem to like them. However, just about everyone loves the Despicable Me Minions. And at New York Toy Fair 2015, MEGA Brands revealed that by the end of the year, there will be over a hundred Mega Bloks Minions figures!
But while there were far fewer Halo sets on display than I’d hoped for, there was an extra display I didn’t expect, totally covered in Minions Mega Bloks figures!
While a handful of Despicable Me Mega Bloks Minions sets and blind boxes were released earlier this winter, Mattel/MEGA Brands has major plans for the Despicable Me license.
According to the MEGA Brands rep at the Toy Fair, even though there are barely more than a dozen Minions Mega Bloks figurines presently available, by the end of 2015 over a hundred different Minions figurines will be available!
Whether you’re looking for Hula Minions, Firemen Minions, Evil Purple Minions, Vampire Minions or Caveman Minions, MEGA Brands has you covered this year! And this is only the tip of the iceberg, as only three dozen of the one hundred Minions coming this year were on display at the New York Toy Fair 2015!
There will be 24 new blind-box Minions Mega Blok figures released (in addition to the first wave of six Minions blind boxes already released), for a total of 30 Minions blind boxes in 2015.
Although I don’t cover all of the Mega Bloks toys released each year here at Bricks And Bloks, I think that there’s enough excitement and interest in the Mega Bloks Minions toys–especially the blind box figures–that I’ll continue providing coverage of the Mega Bloks Minions figures throughout the year (and yes–that includes more Minions Mega Bloks Code Number Lists).
What do you think of these newly-revealed MEGA Brands Minions figures? Are you psyched up to try to collect some–or all–of these adorable yellow henchmen?
Thank goodness they are not making the mistake that the other partners of this property have made: releasing the non-minion characters in the same line. Funko and Thinkway both put the humans in their toyline right there — the same size or barely bigger. So annoying. Mega — please stick with the minions! Make a million minions!
The Bloks part is actually why I follow this site. That and the blind bag codes, plus the quality of coverage in general.
I’m not hugely into minions, but they’re irresistibly appealing, so I expect to own a heap of them eventually, and I always check the brick and blok aisle to see if they’re arrived in my part of the world. Some of the accessories alone are enough to pique my interest.
Have you heard that Mega Bloks has the TMNT license now? That’s a dream come true for me. (Several times over at this point.) I’m extremely pumped for super articulated Nick style micro turtles!
I have never understood the hatred for Mega Bloks. The vast majority of everything they’ve every done has been cool and very helpful for me as a minifigure customizer.
These look awesome, and I’m glad you posted them.
