After a brief respite and a chance for World of Warcraft fans to catch up and complete their World of Warcraft Mega Bloks Series 1 collections from 2012, MEGA Brands is back in full force and ready to start rolling out Warcraft Mega Bloks Series 2! Toys R Us got the Pandaren preview sets in around Christmas, but now the latest 2013 World of Warcraft Mega Bloks set has started to show up for sale online–and it’s full of undead warriors! It’s the Goblin Shredder!
Lately it seems that MEGA Brands can do no wrong when it comes to mechs. Their Halo 4 Mega Bloks Mantis was a total masterpiece, and even the Skylanders Mega Bloks Troll Mech I reviewed in the fall was pretty slick. The WoW Mega Bloks Goblin Shredder 91045 takes elements of both to create a mech that’s not nearly as “kiddie” as the Skylanders Giants Troll Mech, but also not anywhere close to as militaristic and realistic as the Halo 4 Mantis. While I think the demonic face on the front of the Goblin Shredder mech is a little over the top, I love the buzzsaw hand, the spikes on his shoulders, and the talon-like claw hand that it has.
I’m really not impressed with the Grimple the Goblin Warrior figure in this Goblin Shredder 91045 set. He looks far too similar aesthetically to the Krazzle figure that came with the Goblin Zeppelin last year–I wish they’d done a little something to make him appear more unique. Of course, the big selling point of this set as far as figures go isn’t Grimple at all…
No, the major prize in this World of Warcraft Mega Bloks set is the pair of all-new Undead Ghouls figures: Rotgut and Gravegnaw! While we’ve previously had a Worgen Death Knight figure with the Swift Gryphon, this is our first chance to get some really terrifying, shambling-looking zombies in the Mega Bloks Warcraft line.
The Goblin Shredder has just started being released in stores, and should be widely available at most stores that carry World of Warcraft Mega Bloks within the next month. The Goblin Shredder is also available for pre-order from BA Toys and is scheduled to ship out in early February.
