It’s your time, LEGO X-Men fans! X-Men fans had to sit on the sidelines and grumble all winter long, as the LEGO Marvel 2014 winter wave consisted solely of a bunch of sets centered around LEGO Spider-Man and LEGO Avengers. But the moment LEGO Marvel X-Men collectors have been waiting for all year has finally arrived! Not only does the sure-to-be-blockbuster movie X-Men Days of Future Past hit theaters this weekend, but the Marvel LEGO X-Men vs. The Sentinel 76022 set has also just been released!
But LEGO knows how to strike when the iron is hot, and there was no way that they were going to miss their chance to capitalize on the opening of the new X-Men: Days of Future Past movie! And so, though I had no inkling that there had been a new LEGO Marvel summer 2014 sets released yet at all, I strolled into my local LEGO Store today and stumbled upon something unexpected…
To celebrate the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past this week, LEGO has non-coincidentally also released the sole LEGO Marvel X-Men themed set of 2014–the LEGO 76022 X-Men vs. The Sentinel set! The main portion of this set is a LEGO Blackbird (the X-Men’s jet), but it also include a well-articulated (but sort of goofy-looking) LEGO Sentinel figure, as well as LEGO minifigures of Wolverine (Brown Costume), Cyclops, Storm and Magneto.
Though the LEGO Sentinel, Storm, Wolverine and Magneto we’re getting this year don’t resemble their movie counterparts (at all), I’m happier having classic comic book versions of those characters in LEGO form anyway!
The big downside to the 76022 LEGO X-Men vs The Sentinel set is the price. I’m positively gutted by $49.99 for a set with 336 pieces. As much as I want the figures in this set, the chances of me buying a set with a cost-per-piece of 15 cents is zero. I’ll be waiting for a sale on this particular X-Men vs. The Sentinel LEGO Marvel set, as much as it pains me to do so. I just can’t support prices that feel like extortion to me.
Now that it’s out there in stores and up for grabs, will you be picking up the LEGO X-Men vs. The Sentinel 76022 set, LEGO fans? If not, is it because this set just isn’t for you, or is the outrageous price-point for a set with so few pieces keeping you away?
Not entirely random. Cyclops is in the latest film.
