LEGO Ideas fans of licensed sets, rejoice! The review board has completed the second round of LEGO Ideas set reviews for the sets that earned 10,000 votes of support in 2014, and the result are in. While all of the sets from preexisting themes like LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Marvel well rejected once again (and will almost certainly continue to be), one set did pass the review: the LEGO WALL-E set, from the Disney-Pixar classic animated film!
Three years after that–in 2008–his LEGO Wall-E toy was complete. Six years after that, in 2014, LEGO Wall-E earned the 10,000 votes necessary to go into review for consideration to be produced as an official LEGO set. And another year after that, the submission has finally been approved and announced: LEGO Ideas #11 will be none other than WALL-E!
I wasn’t sure if WALL-E would be automatically disqualified for being a part of an existing theme or not (as LEGO has various Disney themes such as Disney Princess), but evidently the lovable little robot is free and clear–LEGO WALL-E should be heading our way in summer 2015!
As WALL-E is a licensed character, we can assume that LEGO will want to get their money’s worth out of paying Disney for the licensing rights to produce a WALL-E toy. In other words, don’t expect this to be a super hard-to-get set such as the LEGO Research Institute and LEGO Mars Rover were–while he’ll almost certainly be a hot seller, there should (eventually) be plenty of LEGO Ideas WALL-E sets to go around!
I’ll post an update here and to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once LEGO reveals more information and official photos of the LEGO Ideas #11 WALL-E set, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have news photos sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
I’m not the biggest fan of WALL-E in the world, but this is yet another set that I know my wife is going to gaga for, so WALL-E is sure to be joining our family later this year! How do you feel about the fact that a brick-built LEGO WALL-E set is coming later this year, LEGO fans? Will this adorable little robot be welcomed into your home this summer?
The pictures you used are his original model, which he replaced in an update last year. The new version is what the product will start with. The new version pictures are here https://ideas.lego.com/projects/52042/updates
It will most definitely be. I even thought about getting 2.
Has there been any more information released about the Big Bang Theory set? I haven’t heard anything about it since it was first announced.
Nope! I suspect we won’t hear any more information on that set for another month or two, unfortunately…
