It feels like an eternity since LEGO debuted their line of LEGO The Hobbit sets at New York Comic Con, but it’s actually only been a month and a half. But now, at long last, The Hobbit LEGO theme has been released and all the sets are now available for order!
The initial wave of LEGO The Hobbit includes six sets:
79000 Riddles for the Ring (MSRP $9.99)
79001 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders (MSRP $29.99)
79002 Attack of the Wargs (MSRP $49.99)
79003 An Unexpected Gathering (MSRP $69.99)
79004 Barrel Escape (MSRP $39.99)
79010 The Goblin King Battle (MSRP $99.99)
The personal highlight of this whole wave for me is LEGO 79003 An Unexpected Gathering. While some collectors are frustrated that it exclusively includes four of the thirteen dwarfs (thus necessitating its purchase to complete the Dwarf lineup), I am just thrilled to finally own a piece of The Shire! Bag-End in Hobbiton is perhaps my absolutely favorite setting anywhere in The Lord of the Rings, and I’m grateful to see this integral part of The Hobbit captured in LEGO form.
I’m also very much looking forward to a chance to pick up and build 79010 The Goblin King Battle, which includes the huge and disgusting Goblin King minifigure and is loaded with cool play features like a collapsing bridge and firing cannon. Plus you get three additional goblin minifigures to help army-build and complement the Goblin King. That makes this set a total must-buy. I was a big fan of this set when I saw it at New York Comic Con last month, and it’s still near the top of my wish list now.
Finally, I am totally enamored with the LEGO 79002 Attack of the Wargs set. The big stars of this set are the all-new LEGO Wargs figures, which come in both white and grey in this set and look ferocious and intimidating. You also get two Hunter Orcs in this set, a nice boost in helping build your Hobbit evil army.
These LEGO The Hobbit sets are slowly starting to trickle into retail stores, but if you don’t want to wait, Amazon has them available now with no tax and free shipping.
