It’s been a slow LEGO news week, but just in time for the weekend images of a trio of previously-unseen sets have leaked out! We first saw rumor lists months ago of the upcoming Fall/Winter 2013 LEGO The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug sets, but the only set to have any images at all revealed up until now was the LEGO The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Lake-Town Chase set that was first shown this summer at San Diego Comic Con 2013. However, at long last, the remaining three LEGO The Hobbit 2013 sets have appeared!
I’m a little surprised that LEGO has apparently skipped out on having any “value” small-sized LEGO Desolation of Smaug sets this year. This is the cheapest set, and it will still cost at least $19.99 in stores. It’s really too bad–I would have loved some army-builder LEGO The Hobbit packs of Orcs!
Next up we have 79012 LEGO Mirkwood Elf Army. With a name like “Elf Army”, I know a lot of fans were hoping for an affordable army-builder pack, but this isn’t it. The good news is that this set contains six minifigures and a brown LEGO Warg figure.
While this set makes a cute little Elven outpost diorama, the bad news is that the set is likely to cost about $40, making it a rather expensive set for army-building. A LEGO Thranduil minifigure of the Elvenking is available with this set, along with two Orc minifigures and three Elf minifigures.
Finally, we have the largest and most expensive of the LEGO Hobbit Desolation of Smaug sets coming out: the LEGO Dol Guldur Battle 79014. As far as minifigures go, this is the set that we’ve all been waiting for! Scheduled to be included with this ~$80 LEGO 79014 Dol Guldur Battle set will be a LEGO Radagast minifigure, a tan Azog minifigure (glad I didn’t pay $1000+ for one!), a Gandalf minifigure, a Necromancer minifigure, and another pair of LEGO Gundabad Orc minifigures.
A LEGO Radagast the Brown minifigure was the main LEGO figure that I wanted the most to be created for the second wave of LEGO The Hobbit sets this year, so I’m very excited that he’s being included this time around (even if he has been packaged with the most expensive set!). I probably wouldn’t buy this LEGO Dol Guldur Battle 79014 set if not the great minifigure selection. Well-played, LEGO. Well-played.
All four 2013 LEGO The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug sets should be available online and in stores in late November/early December 2013. I paid below MSRP for all of last year’s LEGO The Hobbit sets buying them online, and I’m hoping to have similar success this year. I’ll post better images of these sets as they become available, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have news sent straight to your Newsfeed!
