I dropped by my local LEGO Store in Peabody, MA today to pick up my first handful of LEGO Minifigures Series 10 blind bags (which are officially released today!), and was lucky enough to get my first look at three sets just released in stores: the LEGO Superman Man of Steel sets! I knew these would have to be out soon (as the Man of Steel movie opening is June 14th), but I had no idea they were already in stores. I even got to hold the Black Zero Dropship in my hands, and it gave me a real surprise…
The largest and most expensive ($49.99) set in the 2013 LEGO Man of Steel sets is the LEGO Superman: Battle for Metropolis 76003. I didn’t think much of the set when I saw the official photos released online for it, but I happened to be in the LEGO Store today just as the workers there were getting it prepared to go into the display case.
I got to hold the set and get a real feel for its build, and it definitely made me want to buy it. The most surprising aspect for me was the missiles the LEGO Black Zero Dropship fires. The Black Zero missiles are spring-loaded and could shoot all the way across the store–these ain’t no flickfire missiles, that’s for sure! Seriously–these are some high-powered missiles. Can we get these in more LEGO Star Wars sets, LEGO? Please…?
The LEGO Store also had the other two LEGO Man of Steel sets available on the shelves en masse: the LEGO Superman Metropolis Showdown 76002 set ($12.99) and the LEGO Superman: Black Zero Escape 76009 set ($19.99). I’ll be picking up the Black Zero Escape set soon because I want the Lois Lane, but I didn’t have the funds to pick that set up today.
I stopped at my local Walmart on the way home to pick up a case of Green Tea Monster Rehab (I have an energy drink problem), and was delighted to see that they had all three LEGO Man of Steel sets available there as well (for a whopping two pennies less per set), so I took some photos of the sets on the shelves.
There’s one additional known LEGO Superman Man of Steel movie minifigure that we know is coming: a polybag Jor-El minifigure, the father of Superman!
It’s rumored that the LEGO Jor-El minifigure may be a promotional giveaway item for June at the LEGO Store, but it’s also possible the set will be a polybag at Target, Toys R Us, or Walmart. The set doesn’t seem to have a number assigned to it, so I would think it’d be more likely to be a giveaway, but who knows? We’ll have to wait and see where this set eventually ends up.
In addition to the Superman LEGO Man of Steel sets being out and about at my local LEGO Store, they also finally put up their LEGO The Lone Ranger display, which I figured I’d share some photos of for those who don’t have a local LEGO Store. I haven’t had the opportunity to build any of the LEGO Lone Ranger sets yet, so it was great to see them proudly displayed in the store!
If you’re looking to order the LEGO Man of Steel sets and your local store doesn’t have them yet, all three LEGO Superman sets are now available online with free shipping.
