It’s been over a month since photos of the first (underwhelming) upcoming LEGO set for the Superman “Man of Steel” movie was revealed, but this week a second and far beefier set was revealed to the public. The LEGO Superman Battle of Smallville 76003 set includes some intriguing components, including an extraterrestrial dropship, several exclusive Kryptonians minifigures, and even a bald minifigure that looks like Lex Luthor (but isn’t)…
Ringing in at 418 pieces and a $49.99 retail price, this is easily the largest and most interesting of the LEGO Man of Steel movie sets. The LEGO Black Zero Dropship is the largest chunk of this set, with a very alien design to it (which makes sense, since it’s a Kryptonian ship and all). I think the ship’s design looks really exotic and interesting, but at the same time it looks to me like the scale is wonky on the LEGO Black Zero, making it a lot smaller than it should be. This is nice (as it keeps the price point down), but it’ll be a big (no pun intended) disappointment if the Black Zero is much larger in the Superman “Man of the Steel” movie.
The other vehicle included with the 76003 LEGO Superheroes Superman: Battle of Smallville set is a missile-launching military jeep. The tan jeep looks pretty basic, and I’m not a major fan of the blue flickrire missiles, but I supposed it’s good enough.
The LEGO Superman: Battle of Smallville 76003 set includes five minifigures, the most of any LEGO DC Superheroes Superman set. The General Zod and Superman minifigures are nothing special, as versions of those characters are in all three LEGO Man of Steel sets, but the other three minifigures are all exclusives.
The bald guy may look like Lex Luthor, but it’s actually a military man Colonel Hardy minifigure (Lex Luthor isn’t even in the Superman “Man of Steel” movie, FYI). Faora and Tor-An are two more Kryptonian minifigures, and while Tor-An looks a little boring, I have to say that Faora is looking pretty hot! Love that hair on the Faora minifigure!
The LEGO Superman: Battle of Smallville 76003 set will be released in May 2013, just in time to arrive in stores before the Superman “Man of Steel” movie hits theaters.
