It’s been a pretty slow week for LEGO news, but The Brick Owl has turned up a pretty unexpected development in the form of a new, upcoming LEGO polybag promo minifigure. Now, that’s not anything extraordinary in its own right, as we get exclusive LEGO promo minifigures many times per year. No, what makes this particular LEGO promotional polybag set special is that it’s designed to look like people all of us with a local LEGO Store know and love–it’s the LEGO Store Employee Minifigure 5001622 polybag set!
If there’s one store where I don’t mind the salesmen trying to sell me something, it’s the LEGO Store! I try to hit my local LEGO Stores at least once or twice a week, so the LEGO Store Employees are a pretty familiar sight to me. So am I stoked about this just-revealed LEGO 5001622 Store Employee minifigure…? Yes. Yes, I am.
I’m not overly thrilled that LEGO is seemingly not going to include a yellow LEGO Store employee apron with the LEGO Store Man polybag promo (I haven’t seen a LEGO Store Employee not wearing one of the yellow aprons in years), but I love the upcoming minifigure all the same. Not all countries have the LEGO Stores employees wearing aprons, so LEGO must have figured they could leave that piece of attire out of the set.
The only accessory included with the minifigure is a 2×4 red LEGO brick (which obviously costs LEGO less than making a soft goods apron). In addition, LEGO Store workers in the United States wear khakis instead of black pants, but that’s a very easy custom that literally takes half a second, so I can’t really begrudge that.
As of now, there is absolutely no news on when, where, or how this 5001622 LEGO Store Man minifigure can be obtained. Seeing as how this is a very LEGO Store specific minifigure set, though, I can’t imagine it will be available as anything other than an exclusive LEGO promo set given out at LEGO Stores.
We know for a fact that this LEGO Store Employee minifigure polybag can’t be available in September or October (I posted the full LEGO Store October 2013 calendar last week), so it would seem that this LEGO Store Salesman minifigure would have to be available in November 2013 or later.
I’ll update as soon as I hear more details on what you have to do to get one of the LEGO Store Employee minifigures for your very own. And you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have more LEGO news, photos and updates sent straight to your Facebook Newsfeed!
This figure is available through online orders, I think for VIP members. I received one along with the VW bus mini kit with my order, and it is not listed as an ordered item, so it is added to the package when shipped.
Hey Mark! Thanks for the heads up! If you end up opening the employee minifigure, any chance you could snap a few photos to send in?
Sure can, I likely will open it, I can also send along a scan of the certificate that came with it.
We got one with our first ever order. We’re not VIPs. We ordered the Lego Minecraft set.
I can almost forgive the lack of yellow store apron, but I will be very disappointed if the figure is produced globally with only the solid black employee uniform. Considering LEGO’s attention to detail and this unique set is supposed to represent their own company, I would expect that the sets distributed in the US include the standard khaki pants w/ black shoes uniform legs.
do you guys think that there is a specific amount of order? or just by ordering anything from the store will reward you with the polybag?
@onim ross, it is any shop.lego.com order while supplies last. I ordered a single series 11 minifigure that arrived today and it included the LEGO Employee minifig thank you gift.
Hi David,
Thanks for the info. DO you have to be in the US to receive this? Or is it ok to buy from the UK store?
Sorry, I do not know. I recommend calling your region’s shop.lego.com’s customer service (00-800-5346-1111) and ask them to be sure. I do believe it is only for VIP members, so don’t forget you sign in if the promotion is available in the UK.
Thank you very much david
Bummer….I ordered from Lego online store during the VW van promo (actually a big order too) and am VIP and didn’t get the Lego employee mini fig. I wonder how they decided who got it….I had two orders during October too. Hmmm
