It seems rather sacrilegious to be jumping forward and talking about Christmas and the holidays on Halloween, but it’s the last day of the month, and that can mean only one thing: the newest LEGO Store monthly calendar has been released! And it’s the final calendar of the year–the December 2014 LEGO Store Calendar has arrived! But while December is the biggest shopping month of the year at the LEGO Stores and this is the final LEGO Store Calendar of 2014, don’t expect it to be rife with deals–LEGO unfortunately did not save the best for last…
LEGO Stores have two free promos going on in December 2014, and unfortunately, both of them are leftovers from the month before (and one of them ends on December 1st–boo!).
I don’t imagine that many youngsters are going to prefer this free calendar to a free LEGO Pick-A-Brick Box, and unless this calendar is utterly loaded with amazing coupons and offers, I doubt many adults are going to prefer it to the Pick-A-Brick Holiday Box either. I’ll post an update as soon as I know what’s in the free calendar LEGO is giving out, but I don’t have high hopes for this one.
In addition to the free wall calendar, there’s also a big ad for the free LEGO 2014 Holiday Promo Set 2 of 2: the 40107 Holiday Promo Ice Skating set that I talked about a few weeks ago. You get the Holiday Ice Skating 40107 set free with a qualifying purchase at the LEGO Store during Thanksgiving weekend (11/28/2014-12/1/2014).
It seems sort of silly to give up a prime spot on the calendar for a set that will only be available through the first day of December, but I guess LEGO didn’t have anything else lined up, so that’s all we get.
One bit of good news on the calendar is the announcement of the 2015 LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Friends, LEGO Disney Princess and LEGO Movie sets being released in January 2015. The LEGO Star Wars sets were two months late in 2014, so it’s nice to get official confirmation that they are expected to be on-shelf by January (and likely a little bit before that as well!).
The back of the December 2014 LEGO Store Calendar is even more underwhelming than usual as well. It basically just shows off some seemingly-randomly chosen products that can be purchased as Christmas gifts (and LEGO Stocking Stuffers!), as well as giving the deadlines for Christmas delivery on items ordered from the online LEGO Shop at Home site.
What do you think of the December 2014 LEGO Stores calendar, LEGO fans? Will you be heading to the LEGO Store to pick up some holiday gifts for someone you love (or yourself) this December, or are you disappointed enough in what LEGO Stores are offering for promos and deals in December that you’re skipping your shopping trip there entirely?
December mini model build will be a Lego house.
Dissappointing
So, if I am reading this right, I only have to make one $99 purchase from a Lego store or the website from Black Friday to Cyber Monday and I get the totality of the Lego “deals” across both November AND December? Wow, how underwhelming. I guess I will be doing most of my Lego shopping elsewhere as Amazon and Target are going head to head with both Lego pricing and free shipping (and Target winning the shipping deal as they have free shipping on any order). Although I also double check Walmart and ToysRUs just in case they happen to have a deal on the particular item(s) I have in mind.
I guess Lego doesn’t really mind where you do the shopping as you are still buying their product. However, their shops may take a hit this season unless they have other promotions they have yet to reveal.
I will look at it as a chance to catch my breath and pick up anything still pending on my want list.
Given that we have seen no real details yet as to what is in the calendar in terms of special offers, perhaps we should hold our judgement until we do. For all we know at this point, there could be a free “brick box” coupon in the calendar…
Historically, Lego has done a pretty good job with their offers, especially around Christmas. I am greatly looking forward to seeing a post about the calender and the special offers included.
Since I am relatively new with Legos, perhaps others would know this, but since every other Lego promotion I have encountered within the last few months have both been in the store and online, I thought the Lego Calendar would be as well. However, I put in an $85 order over the weekend online, and no Lego Calendar was added to it. I called the Customer Service number listed on the site, and the rep I got first had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about the Calendar, put me on hold, and when she came back told me the Calendar was only available in the stores.
So, if this is a mistake on my part, I will just chalk it up to being a novice. However, since the rep seemed confused (I would think Lego reps would have knowledge of all the promotions –both in store and online), just wondering if anyone can confirm the information she gave me.
