What with Star Wars Celebration Anaheim coming up in just two days and May the 4th nearly upon us, I’m feeling pretty Star Wars-y this week! And so, let’s journey back to a galaxy far, far away and discuss one of the sets I looked past in my initial New York Toy Fair 2015 coverage: the LEGO Star Wars Naboo Starfighter 75092! It’s definitely new… but is it improved?
The 7877 Naboo Starfighter set (which was a Target exclusive in the United States) was only released in 2011 and retired in 2013. In fact, that particular set sold very poorly and ended up being cleared out of many Target stores for half price.
Meanwhile, the 9674 Naboo Starfighter & Naboo set was released in 2012 and rotted on shelves for two years (largely due to the undesirability of the Naboo Pilot minifigure, no doubt). Obviously the Episode I Naboo Starfighter is not the most in-demand vehicle around.
Even so, I walked into the LEGO booth at the New York Toy Fair 2015 last month and immediately spotted the 2015 Naboo Starfighter on display, confirming what I already knew to be true.
Perhaps having realized that the Naboo Starfighter is not the intergalactic apple of every Star Wars fan’s eye, the LEGO Star Wars Naboo Starfighter 75092 is being loaded with figures to help sell the set to kids and collectors.
In total, LEGO 75092 will include nine figures: two brick-built Droidekas and minifigures of kid Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, two Battle Droids, a Battle Droid Commander, R2-D2 and a Naboo Pilot. While none of these are especially rare characters, that’s still a lot of minifigs for a $50 set to contain!
While not exactly a drastic evolution of the Naboo Starfighter, the 2015 version of the ship does feature a new build that incorporates more parts and looks slightly better than the 2011 incarnation.
This will also be the first Naboo Starfighter LEGO vehicle to feature spring-loaded missiles (translucent green in this case), a feature that I’m growing to love more and more on recent sets.
Though I’m feeling a mite burnt-out on Naboo Starfighters at the moment, I am a big Jake Lloyd Anakin Skywalker fan, so I always pick up the sets with kid Anakin minifigures. And though it’s only a modest improvement, this is the definitive LEGO Star Wars Naboo Starfighter, making this set a definite ‘buy’ on my summer list.
The 75092 Naboo Starfighter set is part of the LEGO Star Wars Summer 2015 sets wave scheduled to be released in June 2015. That means that we’ll hopefully be seeing early shipments of this set arrive as early as next month!
Thoughts on the new 2015 LEGO Naboo Starfighter 75092? Is this new version of an oft-released vehicle a worthy upgrade, or are you satisfied with the previously-released builds of the Naboo Starfighter?
Obi-Wan Kenobi looks like the same minifigure that’s in 75058, which is cool because that should make his head more common on Bricklink. I’m trying to get it for a custom minifigure, and this should make that easier.
Finally get a chance to get one. I missed the others, and probably for the best now see the goodies that comes in this one.
looks good
one of the best things to come out of episode one
and getting all of those men with it
perfect
cool ship and lots of men=a great set in my opinion
