While many complain about LEGO rehashing the same LEGO Star Wars vehicles over and over, you can’t deny that there are vehicles that kids and collectors always, always want! One such vehicle is perhaps the most popular vehicle from the entirety of the Clone Wars, the LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship 75021! Though its been released in full-size form twice before, in Summer 2013 the LEGO Republic Gunship is back for a much-demanded third engagement…
Debuting in Star Wars Attack of the Clones, the Republic Gunship was an instant favorite with Star Wars fans and collectors! The LEGO 7163 Republic Gunship was released in 2002 for the Episode II movie release, with a Clone Wars LEGO Republic Gunship 7676 following in 2008. Both those ships were tremendously popular and are expensive on the aftermarket, so it was a no-brainer for LEGO to release the new LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunshup 75021 for the (now-cancelled) Episode II 3D movie release.
With 1,175 pieces for $119.99, this set actually includes more LEGO bricks for the same cost as the 2008 Republic Gunship LEGO Star Wars set–a rare deal! It’s not immediately obvious to me where that extra 100+ bricks are going compared to the 1,034 brick Clone Wars Republic Gunship, however. The ships seem eerily similar from photos, but the build must have some major differences.
Like all LEGO Republic Gunships, there’s an opening dual-hatch on the top of the ship, so you can remove the Clone Pilot minifigure whenever you want. A brick separator will be included with this set–thanks, LEGO! I genuinely appreciate the most common appearance of brick separators in sets lately.
In what has to be considered a true shocker, this is the first-ever Episode II Anakin minifigure with flesh-colored skin! While we’ve gotten a ton of Clone Wars, Episode I Kid Anakin, and Episode III Anakin Skywalker minifigures since LEGO Star Wars switched away from yellow skin, this is the first time we’re seeing an Attack of the Clones Padawan Anakin with the flesh skin! In addition, this is the first time a Geonosis Padme minifigure has been released at all by LEGO!
In another big surprise, this is the first time a (red) Clone Trooper Captain minifigure has been released, and he’s exclusive to the 75021 LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship! I swear LEGO had done one of these red Clones before, but I was wrong. You also get the mullet-loving AOTC-era LEGO Obi-Wan Kenobi figure, along with a pair of Super Battle Droid minifigures (who are really in trouble being matched up with this Gunship).
As with some of the other large LEGO Star Wars sets this year, there’s a poster included in the box with the set. I have a hunch that the poster is going to get at least somewhat banged up in shipping, but at least it’s a little something extra to offset the cost of the set!
Being among the most-loved prequel vehicles and coming with an excellent selection of minifigures, the Republic Gunship is destined to be a smash hit. The LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship 75021 will be released in August 2013. I’ll post order links once the set goes up for pre-order.
UPDATE: The 75021 LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship has been released internationally and can now be purchased from international sellers on ebay. The set will be released in America in late-July/August 2013.
This set is showing as 179.99 at lego.com A lot higher than you show here.
Are you on the American LEGO Shop at Home site? As far as I can, the Republic Gunship hasn’t even been posted yet, but LEGO definitely won’t be pricing it that high in the United States.
They have released a red Lego clone. It was in the first Spider Droid set: http://www.brickwars-sets.com/set_page_7681.php
That’s Commander Fox, though, whose armor actually has dark maroon as a secondary color–it’s not really the same as a generic Red Clone Trooper, whose color is a very regular bright red.
As far as I can tell, the Gunship is $119.99, when I saw it at the New York Toy Fair.
Will a set like this sell out online right away?
It probably will, but it will be restocked for at least a year, so if you can’t get the first shipment, there will be plenty of restocks!
Thanks. I just have a 6 year old that has been taking every extra chore/job he can get to earn enough for this. Just hope I can get one in the first lot
What will this release do to the price value of the 2008 #7676 Republic Gunship?
We’ll have to see. This Gunship is very similar to that one, so it very well may bring down the prices–at least somewhat–of 7676. As an older retired set, though, it’s doubtful that the price of LEGO 7676 will ever totally collapse.
Thanks. We bought #7676 earlier this year for $360 from Ebay for my sons birthday later this year, thinking no way we would find another or would Lego re-release it again! We may as well keep this one boxed and purchase the new one to open. I will keep updated to your site from now on..keep up the good work. 🙂
