LEGO deserves some mad props and applause for pulling off a pretty spectacular feat: they have managed to get a LEGO Star Wars set produced and onto store shelves without ever showing the set publicly or having details/photos of the set leak out to the general public. The set itself may not be anything especially new or enticing, but it’ll earn its place in history thanks to LEGO’s surprising ability to keep it a secret–it’s the LEGO Star Wars MTT 75058 Summer 2014 set!
LEGO Kocka found the 75058 LEGO Star Wars MTT sitting on the shelf of a Budapest LEGO Store (no, really), confirming the rumored release of a LEGO set with the number 75058. The LEGO 75058 MTT is a new version of the MTT vehicle from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The last time a non-mini LEGO Star Wars MTT was released was way back in 2007, so we’re certainly due for a new version of a vehicle that was front-and-center at the Battle of Naboo.
The one and only all-new minifigure in the LEGO Star Wars 2014 MTT set is the PK-4 Worker Droid minifigure. This character was actually playable in the original LEGO Star Wars video game, so it’s great to see him finally get his day in plastic form! Also included with the set are a LEGO Qui-Gon Jinn minifigure, an Obi-Wan Kenobi minifigure, a LEGO Pilot Droid minifigure, a couple LEGO Battle Droids, and a Naboo Security Officer.
Although it’s not technically a new character, the LEGO Naboo Security Officer is still a very worthwhile inclusion with this set that very few collectors have. We haven’t had a LEGO Naboo Security Officer minifigure in fourteen years–the only previous release of the Naboo Security Officer LEGO minifigure was with the LEGO Flash Speeder 7124 way back in 2000! Most kids buying LEGO Star Wars sets today weren’t even born yet the last time a LEGO Naboo Security Officer figure was available!
What do you think of LEGO’s new take on the Separatist MTT, LEGO fans? Will you be making space in your home for a new MTT, or is this not the droid-carrying-vehicle you’re looking for?
Finally! I got the old one but it got crushed… I’m glad a new one has come to the scene! A great way to army-build droids if you got the money.
Why the hell are obi-wan and qui-gon there!?! They weren’t present at the battle, neither did the security guard. It looks like it holds like… 3 droids. the 2007 version is way better.
I’m not getting it. I still have the 2007 one.
