The waiting is over, and the New York Toy Fair 2014 has officially begun! Though we’ve known about basically every single set that’s on display at the event for months, this is our first opportunity to check them out up-close and personal and take photos to spread across the internet like wildfire! I’ll begin with one of the LEGO Star Wars Summer 2014 sets that I was most looking forward to seeing–the LEGO Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina 75052!
That’s why I was overjoyed when news leaked out that we’d be getting a brand-new LEGO Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina set in Summer 2014!
We previously had a tiny Mos Eisley Cantina LEGO set released well over a decade ago, but that set was pretty minimal and left a lot to be desired (including a good LEGO Greedo minifigure). Luckily, LEGO 75052 is everything I hoped it would be… and maybe even a little bit more!
First, the LEGO Star Wars minifigures selection is spectacular this time around! The set includes a fantastic assortment of eight 2014 LEGO Star Wars minifigures: Tatooine Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Greedo, a Santrooper and three LEGO Cantina Band members! The actual LEGO Cantina Band includes six members, so you’ll need to buy this set twice to get the full band.
Luke is hanging out at the bar, but I imagine he’ll be waiting for quite a while, as there’s no LEGO Wuher the Bartender minifigure included with this set.
The LEGO Greedo minifig is quite simply perfect this time around. This is the Greedo LEGO figure I’ve waited my entire life for! It certainly looks like Greedo is getting ready to shoot first, doesn’t it…?
The set will contain the first new LEGO Dewback in years, which looks positively groovy and a vast improvement over the original. And while we just had a LEGO Landspeeder vehicle released not that long ago, I really don’t have a problem with the small, iconic vehicle making a return appearance here.
The LEGO Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina 75052 Summer 2014 set is scheduled to be released in August 2014 with a retail price of $69.99. For a set containing 616 pieces (and 8 minifigures), I think that’s a perfectly fair price.
I’ll be updating with more Toy Fair 2014 LEGO news all week long, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have more LEGO news, updates and photos sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
It’s been a long wait for LEGO to create a new LEGO Mos Eisley Cantina Star Wars set. Was it worth it, LEGO Star Wars fans? Will you be picking this set up in Summer/Fall 2014?
What? No barthender? You cant have a cantina without a barthender
$69.99 is a fair price? really? maybe if you have money to burn! Don’t be too scared to admit that Lego is overpricing everything. This will by $50 on ebay guaranteed, only ebay will show it’s real value, anyways i’ll be buying this.
Why would $69.99 not be a fair price for a set containing 616 pieces? That averages out to 11 cents per piece, with the one cent over the idea 10-cents-per-piece being attributed to the set including eight minifigures and a large LEGO Dewback? LEGO may overprice many sets egregiously (such as poor Jabba’s Palace), but I don’t think that this is one of them.
i’m in switzerland and it costs 100 chf
