I’m sure that there’s nothing that LEGO would have loved more than to blow all of our socks off by revealing some of the immensely-anticipated LEGO Star Wars Force Awakens sets at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this weekend. Unfortunately, Disney’s worldwide embargo on revealing any merchandise for Star Wars Episode VII thwarted that possibility. So instead, we got to take our first look at a couple of sets that I’m not sure top anyone’s lists–the LEGO Star Wars Jango Fett and Commander Cody buildable figures!
And while LEGO has been known to surprise us from time to time, this was not one of those times–the LEGO Star Wars Clone Commander Cody and Jango Fett Constraction sets have now been officially revealed for the very first time!
Considering the insane popularity of the legendary Boba Fett, you might have expected a Boba Fett figure in this first series of Constraction Star Wars sets. I know I did. But you–and I–were wrong! Boba must be being saved for a second assortment of these construction sets, because instead, we’re getting his (far) less popular “father”, Jango Fett, from Star Wars Attack of the Clones!
Of the six sets in this sub-line, Jango Fett is probably my second-favorite (after the awesome General Grievous figure). I have no great love for the character, but his silver and grey color scheme makes Jango look good (or at least decent) from every angle–even the rear. Jango’s helmet, jet pack and dual blasters all look well-executed.
Personally, I would have preferred Captain Rex from Clone Wars, but I suppose you can’t go wrong with Commander Cody either!
The buildable Commander Cody action figure actually looks really great from the front, but like most of the figures in this style, the exposed legs on his back make Cody look awful from the rear view. I’m surprised and disappointed that Disney isn’t forcing LEGO to cover the backs of the legs of these figures so that they look less bizarre.
Jango Fett, Commander Cody and the rest of the LEGO Star Wars Constraction figures are set to be released in September 2015–and unlike most sets, these will have an enforced street date, so I’d be very surprised if these slip out into many stores early. Since Toys R Us will be holding a special Star Wars The Force Awakens Midnight Madness event, I doubt even they’ll be breaking the street date this time.
Now that you’ve seen all six, how do you feel about these LEGO Star Wars buildable figures? Can you see yourself picking up any–or all–of the figures in this line? Or is the style of this new line of figures not wizard at all in your opinion?
Awesome. They could have made Jangos guns a little better but still, awesome
