My apologies for the long delay between posts–a snowstorm back home and travel cancellations made what should have been a five-hour trip home from Toy Fair turned into a two-day trip. But I’m back now, safe and sound, and ready to begin talking about more from New York Toy Fair 2015! And as it was the most requested theme for coverage by readers, I’ll tackle the biggest summer 2015 LEGO Star Wars set first: the LEGO Star Wars Imperial Assault Carrier 75106!
I was hoping LEGO 75106 was actually a vehicle from the new Star Wars Rebels cartoon series–and my hope was fulfilled: the LEGO Imperial Assault Carrier turns out to be the single biggest LEGO Rebels set yet!
Now, “Imperial Assault Carrier” is a pretty fancy name for it, but the layman name for this Gozanti-class cruiser is “Imperial Freighter”. The ship has appeared in Star Wars Episode I and Clone Wars previously–just not under the name “Imperial Assault Carrier”.
The 75106 Imperial Assault Carrier is a nice-enough looking starship overall, if not a bit bland. However, it does have at least one cool gimmick–it includes a quartet of LEGO Mini TIE Fighters that can attach to the Carrier and be deployed to go against your mini LEGO Star Wars polybag vehicles! Fun!
On the minifigure front, this set includes two absolute must-haves for me: a clear-domed LEGO Imperial Astromech Droid minifigure and the helmet for the LEGO Sabine figure.
Yes, I whined up a storm in my review of the LEGO Star Wars Ezra’s Speeder Bike set that there was no Sabine helmet included, but now it can be mine… with purchase of a $130 set. Oy. Other than the addition of her signature helmet, the Sabine Wren figure looks exactly the same as the one released earlier this year.
In addition, the set will include a tan LEGO Imperial Office minifigure, an Agent Kallus figure and two LEGO TIE Pilot minifigures. Not an amazing haul, but Imperial army-builders are always nice to have, I suppose.
Priced at $129.99, the LEGO Star Wars Summer 2015 Imperial Assault Carrier set will include 1,216 pieces. That’s not a terrible value at just over 10 cents per piece, but I think this non-iconic set would sell far better at a lower price-point.
I’ll be continuing with in-depth looks at the summer 2015 LEGO sets revealed at the 2015 New York Toy Fair all month long, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have news and photos teleported straight to your Facebook Newsfeed!
How do you like the largest LEGO Star Wars 2015 set shown so far, LEGO fans? Is this set compelling to you, or does it cost more than you’re willing to spend for a set from the Rebels series?
