I passed on all of the Fall 2012 LEGO Star Wars sets at Toys R Us out of protest of their inflated, scalper-like prices when they started showing up a few weeks ago, but finally the new LEGO Star Wars sets have appeared at one of my favorite retail chains: Target! I was overjoyed at my local Target today to walk in and find an unexpected complete reset of the LEGO aisle, with a fully-stocked LEGO Star Wars area loaded with all of the non-exclusive Fall 2012 sets.
Finally I can bring home Jabba’s Palace 9516 and The Malevolence 9515 for their suggested price of $119.99, instead of the outrageous $150 per set Toys R Us is charging! In addition to that, Target had ample supplies of all the other sets in the fall assortment, including Saesee Tiin’s Jedi Starfighter 9498 ($29.99), the Desert Skiff 9496 ($24.99), and the Gungan Sub 9499 with long-awaited Queen Amidala minifigure ($69.99).
Not only were all of the new sets out and available for purchase at Target today, but they also had a brand-new display case. Many collectors were probably expecting one of the largest sets from the Fall 2012 assortment to be shown off in the case (such as Jabba’s Palace or The Malevolence), but LEGO wisely chose to showcase the two LEGO sets from “The Old Republic” instead (which really need an extra push, as they only appear in an uber-popular video game and no television or movie forms): the $49.99 Republic Striker-Class Starfighter 9497 (with Satele Shan!) and the $89.99 Sith Fury-Class Interceptor 9500 (with Darth Malgus!).
I really wanted to see a fully-built Sith Fury-Class Interceptor before investing $90+ purchasing that set for myself, and seeing the ship in the display case sealed the deal for me. The Sith Fury-Class Interceptor will be a definite purchase for me in the near-future. And once I have that one, well–I’ll need to buy the Republic Striker-Class Starfighter to keep it company! Excellent choices for the display case here, LEGO! Bravo!
