It’s hard to believe, but it’s true: we’re just two days away from the most-hyped toy event of the decade–Star Wars Force Friday! And coincidentally enough, I’ve got two 2015 LEGO Star Wars Episode VII sets left to talk about (imagine that!). Yesterday I talked about the big-bad of The First Order with Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle, but if you want some troops for Kylo Ren to command, the LEGO First Order Transporter 75103 is for you!
In the prequels, Clonetroopers got from Point A to Point B via the beloved Republic Gunships, but it looks like the First Order Stormtroopers’ mode of transport in the new trilogy may not be quite as flashy: the First Order Transporters!
At a glance, the 75103 LEGO Star Wars First Order Transporter looks more like a non-water based submarine than anything else (or maybe a small SHIELD Helicarrier?). At 5″ high, 12″ long and 5″ wide, it’s a decent-sized spacecraft, but definitely not all that much to look at.
Of course, like the MTT before it, the real attraction of this troop-carrier isn’t the vehicle itself–it’s the troopers that it can carry!
LEGO 75103 includes a whopping seven Minifigures–more than any other Force Awakens set coming in 2015 that’s not named the Milennium Falcon! And six of the seven figures in this set are potential army-builders!
The main event of this set is the exclusive LEGO Captain Phasma minifigure, the first-ever female Stormtrooper minifigure and also the first named Stormtrooper in the currently canonical Star Wars universe. Woo!
I’m not ecstatic about the fact that the Captain Phasma Minifig doesn’t come covered in chrome, but I suppose glossy grey plastic will have to do for now. Captain Phasma appears to be the number two antagonist in the movie behind Kylo Ren, so she’ll be a must-have for many Star Wars fans.
Sadly, there’s a factor that’s going to limit purchases of what would otherwise be one of the best LEGO Star Wars army building sets ever: the price. Priced at $89.99 for 792 pieces, this set isn’t a terrible value at just over 11 cents per piece.
That said, I imagine that not make collectors will be lining up to buy multiples of this set for troop-building purposes at 90 bucks a pop. Alas!
The LEGO Star Wars Episode VII First Order Transporter 75103 will be available online and in stores this Friday, September 4th at the stroke of midnight. I don’t think this will be among the first sets to sell out on Force Friday, but with Star Wars mania going into full effect, who knows?
Are you planning on picking up one (or more!) of the First Order Transporter LEGO sets, Star Wars fans? Why or why not?
Those flame thrower troops are epic
What’s better between this and the Kylo Ren’s ship?
Better in what way? I like the Kylo Ren minifigure best between the two sets, but this vehicle’s build looks better to me, if that’s what you’re asking.
Lol this does look like a helicarrier/submarine!
This is soo visually unappealing! The things MOST people will buy just 2 get the minigigs!
Just like any other set. :p
