If you’ve been chomping at the bit to get another wildly non-canonical LEGO Star Wars minifigure, LEGO has a treat for you! Along with this week’s DVD release of “LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out”, there’s an exclusive minifigure packed in–though he’s certainly not one you’ll remember from the original trilogy or even the prequels. It’s the LEGO Star Wars The Empire Strikes Out exclusive Darth Vader with Medal minifigure!
The things seen in the LEGO Star Wars cartoons and video games are among the craziest in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and the “LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out” cartoon is also right along those lines. Ever wanted to see LEGO versions of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia travel to Naboo and hang out with the Gungans from the prequels? Luke Skywalker wearing a Darth Vader disguise? How about a sibling rivalry between Darth Vader and Darth Maul…? Now’s your chance for all of the above.
You’re probably wondering just how Darth Vader wearing a medal fits into anything. Well, Darth Maul decides to build a Death Star in his own image, which annoys the blazes out of the Emperor. Darth Vader accidentally flies his TIE Fighter into Darth Maul’s Death Star masterpiece, which both destroys the Maul Death Star and causes Darth Maul to be lost in space (no, really–I’m not making this up). The Emperor is ecstatic at what Vader has done, and in an analog to the Rebel Ceremony at the end of “Star Wars: A New Hope”, LEGO Emperor Palpatine ends up awarding Darth Vader a medal of his very own–which is what the exclusive minifigure packed with this DVD is based upon.
If you want this highly obscure exclusive Darth Vader with Medal minifigure, you can actually get it pretty cheap (despite its exclusive status). The “LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out” DVD with exclusive Darth Vader minifigure with medals is available now for $9.99 shipped on Amazon. It’s also available at other stores with an MSRP of $14.99.
