Following all of the drama, controversy and disappointment that coincided with the SDCC 2013 LEGO exclusive sets and minifigures, it’s nice to get some pure, unadulterated good news for a change! And that’s just what we’ve got today–some good old fashioned exciting, happy news! Though many collectors thought that a particular minifigure given out for free in June of this year at LEGOLand California was going to become an impossible to find grail, that’s not going to be the case at all! Coming to LEGO Stores as a free promo in September 2013: LEGO Star Wars Clone Trooper Lieutenant Minifigure 5001709!
I was getting a little too used to the doom and gloom of reporting bad news, so it’s refreshing to have something really positive to report on today. Though it’s not the coolest LEGO Stores free promo polybag coming out in September 2013 (that honor belongs to the amazing LEGO Mini Volkswagen Camper polybag I’ll be discussing tomorrow), the mass release of the exclusive LEGO 5001709 Star Wars Clone Trooper Lieutenant minifigure is going to make a whole ton of collectors (and kids!) very, very happy. I was always pretty sure this figure would become much more common, even though many collectors disagreed and opted to pay $125-$175 to purchase the 5001709 LEGO Star Wars Clone Trooper Lieutenant Minifigure off of ebay.
Previously, the LEGO Clone Trooper Lieutenant minifig was among the most difficult to obtain and elusive LEGO Star Wars figures ever created for the line. It was only given out as a prize to kids who won a trivia contest during Star Wars Days at LEGOLand California in mid-June (as well as being given to some of the volunteers at the Fan Gallery that weekend). We thought that the Clone Trooper Lieutenant 5001709 minifigure might be given out for free at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2 in July, but that didn’t come to pass.
As it turns out, though, LEGO has an exclusive offer lined up that’s way better than the LEGO blue Clone Lieutenant Minifigure being given out at a Star Wars convention in Europe–they’re giving him out to absolutely everyone who makes a LEGO Star Wars purchase of $50 or more in September 2013! Considering that the set of my dreams–the LEGO Star Wars Ewok Village 10236–comes out next month as well, I know I won’t have any problems picking this desirable minifigure up on day one!
I have several local LEGO Stores, and will be picking up my LEGO Star Wars Exclusive Clone Trooper Lieutenant Minifigure Polybag Promo at the LEGO Store bright and early on September 1st, 2013. I’ll post photos and a quick review of the figure then, although, I expect that the polybag given out at the LEGO Store next month is going to be identical to the one previously given away at LEGO Land California during the summer.
