In 2015, after having the spotlight shone brightly on them for the past several years, the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy movies will finally be getting a bit of a break from LEGO. While we’ve had a plethora of Star Wars sets based on the prequel trilogy movies in the last few years, encompassing almost every major vehicle seen in the Star Wars Episodes I-III. But while the prequels are being mostly phased out next year, there are a few stragglers still on the way–including the Battle Droid packed LEGO Star Wars Battle Droid Troop Carrier 75086!
That said, Battle Droids compose about 90% of the Separatist forces in the Clone Wars and the prequels, so if you’re building any kind of prequel display or diorama, you’re going to have to have Battle Droids. And this winter, LEGO is giving you a chance to get a whole Battle Droid army in one medium-sized set!
The LEGO 75086 Battle Droid Troop Carrier set contains one of the most passive vehicles from all of the Star Wars films: the Platoon Attack Craft. Basically, this repulsorsled carrier can haul a whole bunch of Separatist Battle Droids into battle, and, well… that’s it! Really! The vehicle has squat in the way of defensive or offensive firepower, and is basically a sitting duck if it runs into any kind of opposition. Poor guys!
The repulsor sled can be separated from the rest of the Battle Droid Troop Carrier vehicle to go it alone and do recon, allowing fans to recreate all of the fun and excitement of Battle Droids randomly cruising around.
Of course, the big intrigue of this set isn’t the Platoon Attack Craft vehicle itself–it’s the minifigures! The set includes a whopping twelve LEGO Battle Droids minifigures, along with a pair of blue LEGO Pilot Battle Droid minifigures. 14 Battle Droids in one set that will (hopefully) be priced at $49.99-$59.99. Not a terrible deal at all, especially with no new Battle Droid Battle Packs coming in 2015.
LEGO must really hate the Gungans, because they are totally outmatched this time around!
The 75086 LEGO Star Wars Battle Droid Troop Carrier set is part of the Star Wars Winter 2015 sets assortment, and is expected to hit stores in December 2014/January 2015. The retail price on this set is currently unknown, but I’ll post an update to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once we know exactly how TLG is going to be pricing this Battle Droid-heavy set. If I had to guess, I’d say the set will retail for $49.99, but with 15 minifigures included, who knows?
Are you thinking about adding one (or more!) of this minifigure-heavy Winter 2015 LEGO Star Wars set to your collections, brick fans? Or have you already accumulated so many Battle Droid minifigures over the years that you have no need for getting an extra 14 more in one shot?
they should have given you this many droids in the mtt set
but no, they give you less droids in the bigger set but more in the smaller set
but i guess that ends up being good because then you can get more droids for less money
This set looks amazing! I’ll hopefully be able to get five or six to reenact some of the best scenes from the clone wars!
