Now that I’ve spent a bit of time discussing some of the other LEGO Summer 2014 sets that debuted at Toy Fair 2014, I want to step back and finish off talking about the LEGO Star Wars 2014 summer wave. Today I’ve got a Star Wars Original Trilogy set that’s been done a few times before, but not in a regular scale since 2006! It’s one of the weirdest star ship designs in the Star Wars universe, and it’s returning to stores in August 2014–LEGO Star Wars B-Wing 75050!
What can I say? I was a kid.
Despite being a classic Star Wars vehicle, LEGO really hasn’t released all that many LEGO B-Wings over the years. Prior to the 2014 LEGO Star Wars B-Wing 75050, LEGO has released two regular sized LEGO B-Wing Fighters (LEGO 7180 in 2000 and LEGO 6208 in 2006), a micro B-Wing with the LEGO Endor Planet set, and a UCS B-Wing 10227 set in 2012. The LEGO Ultimate Collector’s Series B-Wing is famous for being one of the worst-selling and short-lived LEGO Star Wars RCS sets of all-time, unfortunately.
Astonishingly, this strangely-shaped, lopsided LEGO 75050 B-Wing set doesn’t seem to include any type of base, control tower, or support stand of any kind! The previous two LEGO Star Wars B-Wing sets in the regular scale both included some sort of Rebel Control Center or tower to hold the B-Wing up, but the 75050 LEGO B-Wing is apparently not getting any such display stand. At Toy Fair 2014, the poor B-Wing LEGO 2014 set was just sitting on a clear riser. This is a huge disappointment and I can’t imagine what LEGO is thinking with this.
The new B-Wing LEGO Star Wars 2014 set will include three minifigures: a LEGO B-Wing Pilot minifigure, a LEGO Airen Cracken minifigure, and a LEGO Ten Numb minifigure. These updated LEGO B-Wing Pilot and Ten Numb figures look great, and this is the first-ever LEGO Cracken figure. While you may not be familiar with Airen Cracken, if you’re at all curious you should look him up–there’s actually a ton of back story and history about General Cracken!
The new LEGO Star Wars B-Wing 75050 set is scheduled to be released in August 2014. The set will contain 448 pieces and sell at a cost of $49.99. I’ll post an update and order links as soon as the set becomes available for purchase, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have updates sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
What are your thoughts on this year’s 75050 LEGO Star Wars B-Wing set, LEGO fans? Are you looking forward to this set, or is the apparent lack of any kind of stand to hold the B-Wing up (or anything else) putting you off?
Now that you mention it, I don’t remember seeing the B-Wing in ROTJ either.
The lack of a stand doesn’t bother me as the fictional starship does not land using any sort of support structure. Maybe a generic, clear or grey/black stand would have been nice for display purposes, but the controll tower aspect doesn’t really fit well in my opinion. Overall, I don’t think it’s an issue. The new minifigs are amazing and the updated design is nice. My only gripe is the bottom “wing” is not symetrical, but there’s probably not a good way to fix that without making it to thick.
