LEGO Star Wars 2016 Obi-Wan’s Jedi Interceptor Photos!

It’s no secret that Disney and Lucasfilm want people–and merchandisers–to forget about the Star Wars prequels. That’s why we saw less prequels toys released in 2015 than ever before. And in winter 2016, there will be just one LEGO Star Wars prequels set released. Luckily, it’s one that many collectors have been waiting a decade for: LEGO Star Wars Obi-Wan’s Jedi Interceptor takes flight this winter!

LEGO Star Wars 75135 Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor SetThe Target exclusive 7283 Ultimate Space Battle set is one of the rarest and most expensive LEGO Star Wars exclusives ever to be released in stores. Though the 567 piece set only retailed for $49.99, it has sold for hundreds of dollars on the aftermarket since its released in 2005.

One of the primary reasons for LEGO 7283’s success and desirability was that it was the only place where collectors could get an Episode III Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter vehicle in the standard LEGO Star Wars size. At least–until now!

While we’ve had Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Episode II Jedi Starfighter released as both a mini build (with the Kamino Planets set) and a UCS set, 2016 will mark the first appearance of Obi-Wan’s red Jedi Interceptor Starfighter in Minifigure scale in over a decade! Thanks, LEGO!

LEGO Star Wars Jedi Starfighter & Kamino with R4-P17 MinifigureThis small set should retail for $24.99 and contains two Minifigures: Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan Kenobi and an update of the maroon astromech droid, R4-P17. My favorite character in the Star Wars prequels–and maybe in Star Wars overall–is Obi-Wan Kenobi’s doomed astromech droid, R4-P17, so I’m excited to see his Minifigure available once again!

R4-P17 appears in both Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and gets more movie screen time than any astromech droid in existence other than R2-D2, before tragically, uh… having his head chainsawed off by a Buzz Droid. *sniff*

LEGO Star Wars Anakin's Jedi Interceptor 75038 BoxObi-Wan Kenobi’s Red Jedi Starfighter in this set is obviously a huge improvement over the 2005 version, and though it’s been an agonizingly long way for the ship, I’m glad we’re getting it now that TLG has basically perfected the Episode III Jedi Starfighter model.

We don’t know the official piece count yet for the new Obi-Wan’s Jedi Interceptor set, but as the set is fundamentally a recolor of the just-retired Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor 75038 set, I think we can reasonably make the assumption that LEGO 75135 will be in the same ballpark number of pieces with around 223 pieces included for $24.99. It’s not quite 10 cents per piece, but it’s a lot better than spending hundreds to get the original release of this ship on the aftermarket!

LEGO Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor 75135 2016 Set75135 Obi-Wan’s Jedi Interceptor and the rest of the LEGO Star Wars Winter 2016 sets will be available online and in stores in January/February 2016. With Episode VII already released in theaters when these new sets hit, it’ll be fun to see how strong Star Wars mania is going and how fast this sets blow out of stores!

Have you been waiting a decade-plus for Obi-Wan’s red Jedi Starfighter and are excited to finally get a chance to own it this winter, LEGO fans? And if you already own the original version of this ship from 2005, do you think it’s worth upgrading to this new iteration?

  1. The Prequels are made for children to watch similar to Spykids movie series. Nobody really gets hurt and the dialogues are just too cheezy.
