The new year is coming a little bit later than expected for LEGO Star Wars collectors, as for the first time in quite a while, a whopping zero new LEGO Star Wars sets were released in the January of a new year. But fear not–the drought is at an end! Though they weren’t scheduled to be released until next week, the winter 2014 LEGO Star Wars sets have all been released now in the LEGO Stores! I picked up a few sets and photographed them all at my local LEGO Store yesterday…
I was not at all surprised to see that the LEGO Star Wars Death Star Troopers Battle Packs was among the best-selling (and closest to selling out) of the new Star Wars LEGO 2014 sets at my local store. As the only regular LEGO Star Wars Original Trilogy set in this year’s winter wave, that set was always going to be a big seller. The other two Battle Packs (LEGO Kashyyyk Troopers and Utapau Troopers) were also selling well, though not as well as the LEGO Death Star Troopers set.
However, one thing that did surprise me was how well the new range of LEGO Star Wars Microfighters sets were selling. I really wasn’t sure that a market existed for cutesy, super-deformed LEGO Star Wars ships like these, but perhaps I was mistaken. The LEGO Star Wars Microfighters TIE Fighter, Millennium Falcon and X-Wing sets seemed to be the best sellers from this new series.
The worst-selling sets that looked utterly untouched were the LEGO Star Wars 2014 Droid Gunship, Coruscant Police Gunship 75046 and AT-AP. With Clone Wars and Stat Wars Revenge of the Sith 3-D cancelled, I think these $50-$60 sets are really going to struggle at retail.
Though I didn’t purchase them today, the winter 2014 LEGO Star Wars General Grievous Wheel Bike, Republic AV-7 Anti-Vehicle Cannon and Vulture Droid all look terrific in-person. I’ll be picking up all of those sets in the near-future (most likely once the LEGO Martian Manhunter minifigure promo arrives in March 2014).
Are you excited for the LEGO Star Wars Winter 2014 sets to finally be in stores, LEGO fans? Which sets are you prioritizing getting first (if any)?
I have received nothing for my birthday this year (well last year since it was the last day of the year) so I will be able to get all the sets, excluding the Microfighters, at once because I don’t have to pay for all of them. I am going to look like an idiot walking out of my local Lego Store, in fact the only Lego Store in Delaware.
Super Excited for the return of 4 clones per battle pack in this wave….also most the vehicles (ep.3) look very good although I have almost everyone one of these in the 2005 versions haha
