Overnight, images leaked out earlier than expected of the 71016 LEGO The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart set. That was a minor surprise, as we basically knew we’d be seeing the Kwik-E-Mart in all its Squishee glory at some point this month. But what we didn’t know was that we’d also be seeing the LEGO Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 blind bag figures revealed on the very same day! Coming this spring: LEGO Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 71009–with Smithers, Professor Frink and Comic Book Guy!
Ever since last year, when prototype heads popped up overseas for characters like Doctor Hibbert, Comic Book Guy and Professor Frink, Simpsons fans have been waiting with bated breath to learn the identities of the entire set of characters that would be making up the second (annual?) series of Simpsons LEGO Minifigures blind bags.
With the 71009 LEGO Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 figures scheduled to be released in May 2015, I really thought that LEGO might try to hold out on us until April! But nope! The whole assortment of sixteen figures now stands revealed!
The sixteen figures that make up the LEGO The Simpsons Series 2 Minifigures are:
- LEGO Homer Simpson (Sunday Best Church Clothes) Minifigure
- LEGO Marge Simpson (Sunday Best Church Clothes) Minifigure
- LEGO Lisa Simpson (Sunday Best Church Clothes) Minifigure with Snowball II Cat
- LEGO Bartman Minifigure with Slingshot
- LEGO Maggie Simpson Minifigure with Santa’s Little Helper Dog
- LEGO Dr. Hibbert Minifigure with X-Ray
- LEGO Professor Frink Minifigure with Flask
- LEGO Martin Prince Minifigure with Book
- LEGO Fallout Boy Minifigure with Cape
- LEGO Comic Book Guy Minifigure with Squishee
- LEGO Patty Minifigure
- LEGO Selma Minifigure
- LEGO Mrs. Krabappel Minifigure with Coffee Mug
- LEGO Smithers Minifigure with Malibu Stacy Doll Box
- LEGO Hans Moleman Minifigure
- LEGO Groundskeeper Willie Minifigure with Plunger
Let the complaining about this series of sixteen figures including six repeat characters commence!
The oddest character selection for this series that LEGO made was definitely including Milhouse Van Houten dressed up in his Fallout Boy costume (from that one episode where he was dressed as Fallout Boy). Seriously, was there anybody demanding a LEGO Milhouse as Fallout Boy minifigure when we don’t even have a Radioactive Man minifigure (and likely never will)?
I can see the appeal of Bartman (though he’d be much more appealing with a blue shirt), but I just don’t believe that dress clothes Homer, Lisa and Marge Simpson minifigs were high on anybody’s wish lists. Also, I feel sort of awful for any child who spends their allowance money to buy a LEGO The Simpsons blind bag and ends up pulling Patty and Selma. *shudder*
I think that it’s worth noting that there’s one new 2015 LEGO Simpsons minifigure character not included in the blind bags: the LEGO Snake Jailbird minifigure! Snake is available exclusively with the LEGO Kwik-E-Mart set, so if you want to have a complete collection of LEGO Simpsons minifigures with at least one of each character, you’ll have to shell out for the Kwik-E-Mart this spring!
What do you think of the selections made for LEGO 71009 Simpsons Minifigures Series 2, LEGO fans? Are you satisfied with the choices that LEGO made for this series, or were there other The Simpsons characters you were hoping to see immortalized before we got to figures of the main Simpsons family all dressed up for church?
Ya i wont be buying most of the Church versions of the Simpsons. Im actually kind of suprised that Lego made a Smithers figure, but i guess he’d go with Mr. Burns.:P
Moe… thats all i have to say, surely there will be a series 3!!
The only plus to the Simpsons family is that we get the pets with two of them! LEGO knows me well though.. if I get everyone but Sunday Homer and Sunday Marge.. I’m going to HAVE to get Sunday Homer and Sunday Marge.
I like the most – even Patty and Selma. I can use the body and leave the head apart …
And there are some nice ideas in the set
Excited for Professor Frink, Smithers and the Bouvier twins.
I don’t care much for the Simpson family in alternate clothing.
One major disappointment: worst… comic book guy… ever… No fat suit? really?
Ah, why a Mrs. Krabappel and not a Principle Skinner?
And why does ComicBookGuy look like he’s just done a Richard Simmons??
Wheres Cleatus the slack jawed yokel?
And Moe really needs to be there….
Hans Moleman? C’mon. Seriously? He’s a more crucial character than, Sideshow Bob?! or Otto? Lenny and Karl? Even Jasper would have been better than Moleman. The Sea Captain, Principal Skinner. Hopefully LEGO is spreading the good ones over future series. I’d even like to see something like the Bumblebee man thrown in, or a Kang / Kodos. They would be awesome. I’m happy with a few. Wont be picking up the blind bags though, just cherry picking a select few from eBay. We need Sideshow Bob!!!
