As it turns out, I’m still getting more requests for super-sized hi-res images of the Summer 2015 LEGO Scooby-Doo sets shown at the New York Toy Fair 2015 than anything else, so I’m going to close out this week with updated coverage of the first two sets that we saw sneak peeks of! And when you talk about “iconic” and “Scooby-Doo”, there’s one vehicle that springs into everyone’s mind–and it’s coming in LEGO form this summer! The LEGO Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine 75902 is on the way, and it looks Scooby-licious!
And while it isn’t the largest or most expensive set in the range–in fact, it’s pretty value-priced at just $29.99, there’s little doubt which is going to be the best-selling set in the range: the 75902 Mystery Machine Escape set!
The set includes the psychedelic-colored Mystery Machine van itself (obviously), as well as a brick-built Haunted Tree figure and four minifigures: Fred (or Freddie, for “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” fans), Shaggy, Scooby-Doo and a Zombie.
The Mystery Machine LEGO van itself is as authentically retro as ever, and looks to be one of the most fun-looking vehicles released in quite some time. Most of the details on the Mystery Machine are stickers (unfortunately), but there are definitely a few printed design bricks thrown in with the set as well. I can already tell I’m going to be spending a lot of OCD time trying to align the text on the side of the van!
This is the only set that will include a Fred minifigure–so if you want a complete Scooby-Doo detective agency, you’re going to have to buy this set (but really, who would want the complete crew and not the Mystery Machine anyway?).
As with every set, a Shaggy Roger minifigures and a figure of Scooby-Doo himself are also included (along with a delicious-looking double-decker brick-built sandwich!). These are just standard versions of Shaggy and Scooby–nothing crazy like the variants of the figures seen in the Mystery Plane Adventures and Haunted Lighthouse sets.
The last two characters included with the set are a pair of very classic Scooby-Doo villains: a zombie and a Haunted Tree. The zombie is very obviously inspired by the vintage episode “Which Witch is Witch?”, but I’m having trouble placing the tree. It doesn’t look like the one in “Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost”, and I can’t recall what episode it appeared in (if any). Help, Scooby experts?
Also, note the use of the beloved micro ball-joints that debuted with the Mixels line on the Tree Monster. Woo!
The piece count for this set has not yet been revealed, but looking at the contents, I’d be very surprised if this set manages to hit my value sweet spot of ten cents per piece. This is looking more like a twelve or thirteen cent per piece set to me at the moment.
The 75902 Mystery Machine Summer 2015 set is scheduled to officially arrive in August 2015, but with early shipments hitting Toys R Us and the LEGO Store in mid-to-late July 2015. The Mystery Machine is obviously the most iconic of all the sets that make up the first (and perhaps only) wave of Scooby-Doo sets, so don’t be surprised to see this particular set fly out of stores and be much harder to track down at retail at first than any of the other sets in the theme.
Now that you’ve seen the hi-res images of the Scooby-Doo LEGO Mystery Machine van, what do you think, Scooby fans?
That is awesome. Woulda been nice if the van was bigger to fit more mini figs in front BUT the fact that you can even fit 2 is awesome
