Some people say that the LEGO video games are getting old. Me? I never get tired of them. And something else that I never get tired of is getting cool pre-order bonuses when I buy my LEGO video games! Is it expensive and sort of annoying that LEGO keeps making spectacular exclusive pre-order items with their games? Yeah, sort of. But would I rather have these items as special incentives for buying a game than not at all? Definitely. And today the LEGO Batman 3 video game pre-order bonuses were announced–headlined by the Gamestop Exclusive LEGO Plastic Man minifigure!

As a child of the 80’s, I love me some Plastic Man. I’ll totally forgive anyone who’s not a hardcore comic book fan and doesn’t know who Plastic Man is–he’s not exactly a household name. But to me, he’s pretty unforgettable. I grew up watching The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Show cartoon (which in retrospect was not as great as I thought as a three year-old), and he was one of my most-beloved superhero toys as a kid, as I absolutely adored the Kenner Super Powers Plastic Man figure.

So despite the fact that many people are probably staring at their screens right now with a quizzical look on their faces and getting ready to Google “Plastic Man”, I for one am overjoyed that a LEGO Plasticman minifigure will be seeing release this fall! Plasticman is exactly the kind of B-List (or maybe C-List) character that makes for a great LEGO exclusive minifigure.

The LEGO Plastic Man minifigure is a free bonus when you pre-order the LEGO Batman 3 Video Game from Gamestop. With this reveal, Gamestop has once again managed to lock up my pre-order for a LEGO video game (despite the fact that I avoid Gamestop like the plague when they don’t have an exclusive item I want).

Other retailers also have their own LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham pre-order bonus items, though none of them are as compelling as Plastic Man.

You can get a free LEGO Batgirl Keychain as a pre-order bonus by ordering the LEGO Batman 3 Beyond Gotham video game from Amazon.

This isn’t a bad pre-order incentive item at all, as this particular New 52 Batgirl minifigure has previously only been available with the $50 LEGO Joker Steamroller 76013 set. If you don’t want that set, you can at least get this year’s Batgirl figure as a free bonus!

Meanwhile, Toys R Us has a free LEGO Joker minifigure with a LEGO Batman 3 game pre-order. This is the classic Joker that reminds me too much of Jack Nicholson and really creeps me out, so I really wouldn’t want this particular LEGO keychain!

This LEGO The Joker minifigure is also otherwise only available in the LEGO Joker Steamroller set that includes the above Batgirl LEGO minifigure.

Target has a LEGO Batwing polybag set for free. I actually don’t have this polybag yet myself, so this would have been my pre-order bonus choice if I wasn’t dead set on getting that awesome LEGO Plastic Man minifigure from Gamestop.

Finally, Walmart has the LEGO Batman Tumbler polybag set as its exclusive item. This isn’t a very special bonus, as the LEGO Tumbler polybag was available at Target checkout lanes for months in stores. In fact, I reviewed this LEGO Batman Tumbler 30300 set a while back (and gave it a very positive review!). It’s not a bad pre-order bonus, but you can certainly do better.

In addition, Best Buy is going to have a LEGO Batman 3 Beyond Comic Digital Comic Book as its pre-order bonus, which you’ll be able to download through Comixology. I think that this particular item is by far the weakest of the pre-order items, as it’s not physical or even an in-game bonus.
