LEGO Piggy Coin Bank 40155 Released & Photos!

Continuing the saga of what is most assuredly the best week of my life, I got to have some agonizingly painful facial surgery and stitches yesterday. But wait–there’s both relevancy and a happy ending to this story! See, I had the surgery done down the street from the LEGO Store, so how could I not drop in (with my bloody, bandaged  face), where I found the just-released LEGO Piggy Coin Bank 40155 (which is also available for order online)!

Not only was my wife kind enough to take off time from work yesterday to go to my surgery, but she was also sweet enough to know–without asking–that I was going to want to go straight to the closest LEGO Store after the procedure! Yep–I have the best wife ever, right…?

Thankfully, the effort wasn’t futile, because they actually had something at the LEGO Store I hadn’t seen yet in person: the LEGO 40155 Piggy Coin Bank! I imagine some folks are questioning why this pig is red instead of pink, but I have no issue with it: red is LEGO’s signature color, after all!

40155 Piggy Coin Bank LEGO Set Box BackThe 40155 Piggy Bank set first appeared internationally as a big surprise last month, but based off the packaging for the set, I had little doubt that it would be showing up in the United States this summer.

I actually hadn’t heard any reported sighting for the set yet domestically, though, so I certainly didn’t expect to come face-to-piggy-face with the ingenious little set this week! But right there in the very back of the store, stocked next to the Salt & Pepper Shakers and the new LEGO Birthday Table Decoration set, was a double-facing of this much talked-about red pig bank!

LEGO 40155 Piggy Coin Bank $14.99 Price

Containing 148 pieces for $14.99, the value on this set almost hits dead-on with my target price-point of 10 cents per piece. For a store-exclusive set that doubles as a functional coin bank, I think that’s a totally fair price. I don’t imagine that you can hold an especially huge amount of coin inside of this bank, but let’s be serious here–this set is more for the sake of novelty than it is for saving money.

The Piggy Coin Bank set features poseable ears and rotating eyes, which I think gives this bank a lot more character than any piggy bank that I’ve seen before! The use of sausage bricks as eyebrows on a pig definitely creeps me out–a lot–but there’s no discounting how adorable this rotund little sweetie is!

LEGO Piggy Bank Set Released in StoresThe 40155 LEGO Piggy Coin Bank is available exclusively online and through official branded LEGO Stores now, and is expected to be another limited-edition set only available for a couple months. If you want your own brick-built Piggy Bank, I’d say to snag one of these little porkers without delay!

Now that it’s out in the United States, will you be saving your pennies and getting your own LEGO Piggy Bank 40155 set, brick fans?

  1. Do you know why the piggy bank is limited to five per order in the online store while the birthday table decoration set has no limit? Does that mean that Lego expects the birthday set will not be in short supply and/or that it will be available for more than just a limited time?

    • I believe that both sets will only be available for a limited time, Deb, but that the Piggy Coin Bank has been produced in much smaller quantities. I don’t think LEGO believes there’s nearly as big of a market for the Pig as there is for the Birthday set.

  2. This is what I need to finish my Hulkbuster MOC! The feet are a perfect base for the “hubcap” style shoulderpads that the original comics design had.

  3. I picked mine up on June 1st with the star wars/ant man release. It is an awesome lil build. I wish he was less flat on top and sides and yes…coulda been pink… but I will live with it.

WHAT IS THAT LEGO MINIFIGURE ICE POP MOLD?!!?!?!!?!??! We didn’t have that at my lego store!
    Want!
