This afternoon I babbled on at length about the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Battle for Ninjago City set and how I much prefer fantasy playsets in the Ninjago theme to the technological vehicle sets. Well, now I’m back to discuss the other of the two LEGO Ninjago Summer 2014 sets–a technological vehicle set! Coming to stores in just a few weeks, it’s the last one of this year’s LEGO Ninjago sets–the LEGO Ninjago X-1 Ninja Charger 70727!

LEGO 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger Ninjago 2014 Summer Set

As I’ve said before, I like my ninjas to feel very ninja-y and realistic, and not so much technologically advanced/futuristic. So you might think that I would absolutely despise the LEGO Ninjago X-1 Ninja Charger 70727 on sight. You would be wrong.

As things turn out, I find that I love this LEGO X-1 Ninja Charger car! This flaming ninja race car is just so over-the-top ridiculous that it’s downright fun and hilarious. Thumbs up, LEGO!

70727 LEGO Ninjago X-1 Ninja Charger Car 2014 Summer SetThe flaming decals on the front of the Ninjago Red Ninja Charger car add a ton of visual appeal and fun to the vehicle, but that’s certainly not all this ultra-slick racer has to offer! There are laser flickfire missiles that fold out from the sides of the car, a ludicrously huge engine that fully rotates, and perhaps the most outrageous–an Interceptor Bike that launches out of the LEGO 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger (a la Batman launching the Batpod out of the Tumbler!). All these features are so silly, but also oh-so-fun. I love this car!

The set includes three LEGO Ninjago minifigures: a LEGO Kai minifigure and two LEGO Nindroids minifigures.

The weapons and accessories included with the set are likewise cool (and funny) including a Nindroid Disc flyer that is basically a flying saw blade with flame-red exhausts, a Nindroid jet pack with loads of blades, and a translucent red flaming Techno-Blade weapon for Kai! Crazy–but lovable–stuff here!

The LEGO 70727 X-1 Ninja Charger set contains 426 pieces for $39.99, which is a very fair price and clocks in at a little bit over 9 cents per piece. Given the size of the X-1 Ninja Charger LEGO car itself and the number of features, minifigures and accessories included with this set, I actually think that this set is a pretty strong value and a good buy (even if it is a little peculiar to have a ninja driving a flaming race car).

LEGO Ninjago X-1 Ninja Charger 70727 Summer 2014 Set BoxThe LEGO Ninjago X-1 Ninja Charger 70727 set is scheduled to be released in May/June 2014. This is a mass release set, so it should be available from all major LEGO retailers as well as official LEGO Stores and the online LEGO Shop. I’ll post an update once the 70727 LEGO Ninja Charger is sighted driving into stores.

How do you like Kai’s X-1 Ninja Charger LEGO 70727 set, LEGO fans? Does this car make the red ninja pretty much the coolest guy in the world, or are ninjas driving hot rods just not for you?

  1. Despite the hidden features, it’s a little too contemporary to really fit well with either the medieval Japan or the futuristic themes that the Ninjago heroes usually have. But… based on the strength of the other 2014 Ninjago offerings I decided to go all in on these sets. (I don’t have too much of the previous ninja sets, mostly just the mechs, the Ultrasonic Raider, and whatever came along with the Snake-themed sets.)

  2. I am about to get this set from amazon. I personally like all the hidden features but I don’t get what the recon nindroid is suppose to do. This lego set is going to be very popular I think. I also like the idea of a single rider ninja car instead of the ultra sonic raider. To wrap it up I would say its a great idea for a new set and have the episode using it to grab your attention.
