I woke up this morning, looked at the date, and knew today was going to be an expensive day. Why? Because the most beautiful brick-built Oriental-style Village ever went up for sale this morning: the LEGO Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu is now available for order! (You must be logged into your LEGO VIP account to order.) But just ordering this beauty wasn’t enough for me–I needed to see it in person! And so, I headed over to my nearest LEGO Store to take hi-res photos…
Although I wasn’t certain whether or not there would be a completed display model yet behind glass in my store, I was willing to take that chance and make the half-hour drive to the LEGO Store today anyway. And it was worth it, as I got to see this killer new set in all its glory ahead of my own copy of the set arriving!
There are going to be two main attractions that convince folks to buy this set, but the primary one is definitely going to be the drop-dead gorgeous Oriental architecture style of the buildings. The style is unlike anything I have in my collection, and a very welcome addition!
While the set is called the Temple of Airjitzu, the Njnjago Air Temple actually only makes up one-third of the set. The other two main buildings are the Blacksmith’s Workshop and the Smugglers’ Market. In this way, the set reminds me a lot of the exclusive Harry Potter Diagon Alley set, which was also comprised of three smaller buildings.
The Smugglers’ Market certainly looks innocent enough with that nice man fishing out front, doesn’t it? I particularly like the curved shingle-style roof, and that yellow crab is just the cutest!
This Oriental bridge is so scenic! I kind of want to live in this village myself!!
The other thing that is going to be a huge attraction (moreso for Ninjago fans than those just wanting the Asian-style buildings) is the largest number of Minifigures ever included with a Ninjago set: a full twelve figures!
LEGO 70751 contains 2,028 pieces for $199.99 which, while not the greatest price ever for a larger set, is perfectly fair at a cost of less than ten cents per brick (and especially fair when you consider the whopping dozen Minifigures included).
The exclusive Ninjago Temple of Airjitzu is now available for order on the online LEGO Shop, although you have to be logged into your VIP account in order to purchase the set until September 1st (and I know we’re all VIPs here, right?). I’ll be very curious to see how this super-deluxe Ninjago set sells, since it’s not a theme that would typically be at this price-point.
Who out there is thinking of ordering (or has already ordered!) the largest and most expensive LEGO Ninjago set ever made? And if you do want this set, is it more as a fan of the Ninjago theme or as a lover of gorgeous Oriental architecture?
This really is a gorgeous set. Just not sure if $200 is in my Lego budget for this one.
I ordered mine last night from LEGO S@H mainly for the Oriental nature of the set. also because as an AFOL I like the harder sets. I do like the Ninjas also.
Forgot to mention we have to pay $300 in Australia!!!
