LEGO Ninjago made its fateful and much-anticipated return at the tail-end of 2013 with the LEGO Ninjago Rebooted theme. Six months later, LEGO is readying the second wave of the revived theme for release with the LEGO Ninjago Summer 2014 sets! While there are only two known sets scheduled for release, one of them is monstrously huge and sure to be atop most boys’ birthday and Christmas lists in 2014–it’s the LEGO Battle for Ninjago City 70727 2014 summer set!
The LEGO 70728 Battle for Ninjago City set is far and away the largest and most expensive of LEGO’s 2014 selection of Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu sets, as it contains 1,233 pieces for a mighty $119.99. That costs out to under 10 cents per piece, which puts the set squarely into my category of fairly-priced sets, despite the heavy price tag.
While you won’t get all of the LEGO Ninjago minifigure ninjas with the Battle for Ninjago City 70728 set, you will get eight awesome minifigures, including two that are exclusive to LEGO 70728. The most important inclusion in this set is the exclusive LEGO Overlord minifigure, depicting the main antagonist of Season 3 of the Ninjago cartoon series atop a mechanized spider/scorpion-like mech.
In addition to the first LEGO Ninjago Overlord minifigure, however, this set is also the sole place to get the LEGO Ninjago Nya minifigure for Season 3! Samurai X fans rejoice!
The other six Ninjago minifigures included with the 70728 LEGO Battle for Ninjago City set will be Zane, Lloyd, Jay and three generic LEGO Nindroids minifigures.
The set has a ton of play value and action features including a zip line for the ninjas to ride around on, opening doors, a blasting laser cannon, hidden weapons, rotating walls, a glider, a spring-launched disc shooter and more. LEGO is definitely getting us ready for one heck of a battle!
Scheduled to be released in May/June 2014, we’re only a few more weeks away from the launch of the largest LEGO Ninjago set in close to two years! I’ll post an update here and to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook page once the LEGO 70728 Battle for Ninjago City set shows up in stores, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have updates, news and photos sent direct to your Facebook Newsfeed!
The LEGO Battle for Ninjago City 70728 set is hands-down the biggest LEGO Ninjago 2014 set, but is it the best, LEGO fans? Are you psyched up to add the Battle for Ninjago City LEGO set to your collection, or has LEGO not impressed you enough with this mega-playset to earn your $120?
