Christmas really has come early this year (and LEGO is reaching for Santa’s credit card)! Not only did we get our first look at the LEGO Santa’s Workshop Winter Village set earlier this week, not only was the masterpiece LEGO Star Wars Sandcrawler released earlier this month, and not only was the amazing LEGO Fairground Mixer just put up for sale yesterday–now another wave of new sets has hit stores earlier! And despite the crazy amount I’ve already spent on LEGO this month, there was no way I was going home without a certain SPACESHIP!!!
At this point, there’s not a whole lot that I can say about The LEGO Movie Benny’s Spaceship 70816 set that I haven’t said already. I’ve already written two previews of the LEGO Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! set, so check those out if you’re interested in hearing my ramble on about all of the set’s details.
I paid $99.99 (and had a big smile on my face doing so) for the 70816 LEGO Benny’s Spaceship set at Toys R Us, which is the official retail price for the set. I’ll post a full review and photos within the next week, once I have a chance to fully build and enjoy the SPACESHIP! of my dreams.
Of course, two other sets shipped out with Benny’s Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship, and those were both on the shelves at the store as well. First up is the LEGO Movie Super Secret Police Dropship 70815.
LEGO 70815 is a set that I think will end up ultimately being more popular for the eclectic group of minifigures included than for the admittedly cool “evil” vehicle. This is the only set with an official LEGO Movie Batman minifigure, and certainly the only licensed set ever to include Johnny Thunder and Green Ninja minifigures. Plus you get a generic Emmet minifigure and four Robo SWAT minifigures to round out the set.
I love the spinning ninja dropkick that the Green Ninja is pictured doing on the box back! I think that the 70815 LEGO Movie Super Secret Police Dropship is a very neat set that I’ll pick up eventually, but not in the same month as the Sandcrawler, Fairground Mixer, and so many other high-priced sets.
Finally, we have the “Aliens”-inspired LEGO Movie Emmet’s Construct-O-Mech 70814. While it certainly hasn’t reached the same levels of fan fervor as the Spaceship has, I think this set will be very popular for its role in the climatic battle in The LEGO Movie.
You get yet another Emmet minifigure and two Skeleton minifigures with the Construct-O-Mech, but let’s get real here: the real prize in this box in the LEGO Angry Kitty Unikitty minifigure. This raging kitty-cat is gonna be one expensive figure on the aftermarket, so I’m glad I’m just going to end up buying this whole set later on.
The LEGO Movie summer sets have thus far only been sighted at Toys R Us stores. LEGO Stores may or may not put them out before the expected release date of 6/1/2014 (although I have a hunch that they will).
I can’t wait until I get the Spaceship and the Mech! I will probably have to wait until christmas or fall to get them though >:(
After searching three toys r us’s I couldn’t find it :/… Reporting in from mn
After five stores, found it at Bloomington. Awesomely fun build!
By he way, the New lego star wars sets presented St the NY toy fair (at-at, cantina, etc.) habe already been released in the lego store in Berlin, Germany.
I will probably have my wife get me all three for my birthday in Oct.
