Earlier this month, photos leaked out of a mysterious The LEGO Movie minifigure polybag–the LEGO Movie Radio DJ Robot minifigure! While some speculated that the LEGO Radio DJ Robo minifigure was going to be given away at theaters for movie-goers coming to see The LEGO Movie next month, it turns out that that’s not going to be the case. The LEGO Movie Radio DJ Robot minifigure is in fact going to be a Walmart exclusive, and will only be available to collectors who purchase certain versions of the LEGO Movie video game from Walmart…

When I saw the LEGO Movie Pajamas Emmet and Radio DJ Robot minifigure images surface, I immediately got an ominous feeling that us LEGO collectors were going to have to jump through hoops to get them. And it turns out that I was right in at least one of those cases. While it’s still unknown exactly how the LEGO Pajamas Emmet figure will be released, we now know for certain that the LEGO Radio DJ Robot minifigure will be an exclusive release only available with pre-ordered copies of The LEGO Movie video game at Walmart stores.

As you might imagine, I’m a little bit annoyed with the method of distribution for this really cool Radio DJ Robot LEGO Movie minifigure. While we’ve had minifigure exclusives with LEGO video games before, this is the first time I can remember multiple stores having unique minifigures available with pre-orders for the same video game!

GameStop has already been selling their LEGO Movie Western Emmet minifigure exclusive with pre-orders for The LEGO Movie video game, and that’s where I have my copy of the video game on order. While I might prefer the Radio DJ Robo LEGO minifigure, I’m also not about to order another copy of the same video game to get it. Honestly, I’m surprised LEGO is even allowing multiple stores to have competing unique minifigure exclusives for the same game. Very, very lame.

The Walmart exclusive LEGO Movie Radio DJ Robot minifigure is now available for pre-order with copies of the XBox 360 and PS3 versions of the LEGO Movie video game, with a scheduled release date of 2/7/2014 (the same day as The LEGO Movie comes out in theaters, of course). If you want the Radio DJ Robo figure, I’d suggest pre-ordering–the last Walmart exclusive minifigure (Iron Patriot) has gotten quite expensive on the aftermarket already.

I really do like the LEGO Movie Radio DJ Robot figure, but I’m not willing to buy a second copy of the LEGO Movie video game to get him. What about you, LEGO fans? Is this LEGO promo figure enough to make you order a first (or second!) copy of the LEGO Movie game?
