When we go for too long without any LEGO sets being released or any major LEGO news leaking out, I begin to go a little bit crazy and start doing weird things. What type of weird things? Well, for one, I make trips to the LEGO Store even though there won’t be anything new in the store. Why? To see a free promo set that I’m never going to have the opportunity to build or own anyway. Yes, it’s boredom-borne desperation time here in Bricks and Bloks world, so I headed out to my local LEGO Store to check out the LEGO August 2014 Monthly Mini Model Build Monkey set in person!

One of the things that we learned from the August 2014 LEGO Store Calendar was that the LEGO Monthly Mini Model build for the month is going to be none other than a LEGO Monkey mini set!

I don’t always make the one-hour round-trip to the LEGO Store solely to take photos of the next month’s Mini Model Build in person, but then again, there’s usually more to talk about in the LEGO universe than the next-to-nothing we’ve had for the past week. And so, I made the grand voyage to my nearest LEGO Store just to see this guy…

My impressions are that the August 2014 LEGO Monthly Mini Model Build promo set is… okay. He’s not nearly as cute as the Monkey in the LEGO Creator Forest Animals 31019 set, but that monkey will cost you fifteen bucks or more, whereas this one is absolutely free. At least–it’s free, provided you can get one at all. As always, the LEGO Stores Mini Monthly Model Build event in August 2014 is only for kids–no adults (or even older teenagers!) allowed.

The Monkey LEGO Mini Model Build will take place on August 5th, 2014 starting at 5PM. Each LEGO Store location will receive only 250 sets, so get there early if you want one! Just keep in mind–these LEGO Monkey Models are not for sale–if you’re not in the range of ages 6-14, you’re not getting one, no matter how much you might beg your local LEGO Store employee (believe me, I have tried)!

Luckily, while the LEGO Monkey set is sort of cute, he’s definitely not a Monthly Mini Model Build that I’m going to lose any sleep over not getting.
