I was a little bit unfair toward the LEGO Mixels series when I initially saw the sets, so I wanted to make sure to rectify the situation when LEGO Mixels Series 2 hit stores this month. Earlier this week I reviewed the terrific LEGO Mixels Series 2 Flurr 41511 set, and today I’m going to touch on the figure that looked the second most-appealing to me in the series. And to make up with the Mixels theme for my earlier negative attitude, not only am I going to post a 41514 LEGO Mixels Jawg review, but I’ll be giving Jawg away as well! Read on for the details…
The Right:
And then I saw Jawg. And while I didn’t fall in love with him in the way that I did with the Blue Frosticons’ Flurr, I definitely knew that he was going to be the second figure from this set that I was going to have to purchase and build.
LEGO Mixels Jawg 41514 contains 61 pieces, which is a pretty strong value for $4.99. That’s just over 8 cents per piece, and way below my LEGO price-per-piece sweet spot of 10 cents per piece!
Though Jawg contains more parts than the ordinary Mixel figure, he’s still fast and easy to build, and the instructions are clear. Any kid or adult will have no problem getting Jawg fully built within 10 minutes.
Considering his ultra-huge teeth, Jawg ain’t no vegetarian! Other Mixels will definitely need to watch out for Jawg. His jaw hinge joint has a humongous range of motion, and can open more than 90 degrees wide! This is one fearsome Fang Gang Tribe member.
I was initially going to complain about the lack of a ball joint for Jawg’s tail, but after I played with him a little bit I really can’t bring myself to gripe much about the tail. Jawg’s tail has a swivel joint both at the base of the tail and in the middle, so you can get it into quite a few poses. It gives the LEGO Mixels Series 2 Jawg a lot of personality, and while it’s not as poseable as it would be with a ball-joint, it’s still awfully cute!
The Wrong:
Because Jawg’s four legs are just regular LEGO bricks and not micro ball-joints, they pop off a lot easier than I was hoping for, and (obviously) aren’t as poseable as they would be if they were ball-joints.
Overall: I am so very glad that I decided to give the Series 2 LEGO Mixels toys a chance, as I’ve been very impressed with both Mixels that I purchased. Jawg isn’t as cute as Flurr and he also isn’t as articulated. While Flurr has three micro ball-joints, Jag has zippo. Even so, Jawg includes more pieces and has quite a charming look and personality all of his own. If you’re only interested in the new LEGO ball joints then Jawg isn’t the Mixel you’re looking for, but if you just want another fun and adorable Mixels figure, definitely give LEGO Mixels Jawg 41514 a look.
GRADE: B+
The Giveaway:
Oh yeah, I said something about giving LEGO Mixels Series 2 Jawg away, didn’t I? Well, although he’s awful cute and I’ve gotten attached to the little guy, I bought LEGO Jawg with giving him away in mind, so that’s just what I’m going to do! The rules are totally simple: ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook and enter using the Rafflecopter widget below!
I’ll use Rafflecopter to randomly select the winner on June 13th, and the winner will be posted to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook page. Good luck!
is there a combiner model for the series 2 mixels like there was for the series 1 ones?
